Job description

Our participants, Our people, Our purpose

Currently, there are around 4.3 million Australians with a disability. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in the country since Medicare. As an Agency, we support more than 600,000 participants with a significant and permanent disability, and the families and carers of those living with disability. For many Australians, this will be the first time they receive the disability support they need. The NDIA is designed to enhance the quality of life and increase economic and social participation for people with disability and will mean a peace of mind for every Australian.

*Please note - Affirmative Measures provisions are also open for these positions.  The affirmative measure positions are to improve employment opportunities for people with a disability and Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people in the Australian Public Service.  They are open only to people with a disability or Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.

A new role awaits

We have incredible and unique opportunities for Planners to join our Remote Services team.  The team is responsible for engaging with participants and managing participant plans and supports across a wide and diverse community.

The APS5 Planner - Remote Services will undertake planning activities and tasks related to the participant journey.  You will have a significant level of contact with our internal and external stakeholders.

Where you can add value

The roles work in the remote service field.  This may involve frequent travel to remote Indigenous communities over long distances in a 4WD vehicle and/or in a small aircraft.

The provision of service is often conducted outside of a “normal” office environment and requires walking within communities.

This work may require manual handling tasks e.g. lift/carry equipment and changing a 4WD tyre.  Accommodation standards in remote communities are generally of a more basic standard than usually found in major cities and towns.

Some of the most important elements of this role include:

  • regular travel to and from remote and very remote locations to undertake planning meetings and check ins with participants.
  • build strong relationships with community organisations, groups and members to improve outcomes for participants in remote and very remote locations.
  • use available evidence and an understanding of community ways of working to build fit for purpose NDIS plans for participants living in remote and very remote locations.
  • utilising a range of resources such as interpreters and translated documents, communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants, families and communities to explain the National Disability Insurance Scheme, mainstream supports and services.
  • support the development and implementation of targeted service delivery approaches for remote and very remote areas.

Enough about us, let’s talk about you

APS 5 Planners - Remote Services are a key service delivery role for the NDIA and gather information from participants and planning partners over the phone and/or in person to build quality participant plans.   You will ensure all participant plans are compliant with relevant legislation, policy and practice guidance.

To join our team you will:

  • be a team player. When travelling remotely staff need to work in close proximity to each other, often in situations outside their normal comfort zones.
  • have experience working with remote and very remote communities including travelling remotely.
  • be resourceful – being able to think outside the box and be innovative.
  • be open minded – approach all interactions with participants, communities, stakeholders and colleagues with kindness and respect.
  • have values aligned to APS – integrity, commitment to service, accountability, respectful and ethical.
Your NDIA Experience

We work as one team. We are accepting, diverse and driven. We take a shared approach to making progress. We welcome and support each other and encourage different ideas, insights and opinions. We empower and enable each other to be our best. We collaborate, connect and work together to create a workplace that makes us proud. And while we are based far and wide across the country, we make sure nobody feels they're out on their own.

You will work for a socially inclusive and culturally diverse workplace, that is making a meaningful impact to the lives of more than 600,000 Australians.

  • Access to higher superannuation and above market leave entitlements
  • Competitive remuneration and working conditions that support a positive work life balance
  • Access to ongoing professional development and learning

Other locations may be considered in WA, NT and SA.

We intend to fill this role in an ongoing capacity, however non-ongoing roles up to 12 months with the possibility of extension up to 2 years may be offered.

Successful candidates will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police History check, Worker Screening check and/or Working with Children Check (where required) and provide evidence of Australian Citizenship.

Applications for this role close: 18 March 2024 at 11.30pm (AEDT)
