Aps5 Privacy Officer

Eligibility/Security Requirement: Baseline Security Clearance or be able to obtain and maintain a baseline security clearance.Job overviewThe Legal Services Division provides strategic legal advice and assistance to the agency's executive and the Minister. The division is responsible for the delivery of legal services within and on behalf of the agency.Privacy Officers advise on the agency’s compliance with this legislation and the policies and processes that support this compliance, through privacy advice work as well as the review and management of privacy incidents.Working under the general direction of senior staff, they make decisions within defined parameters that require some reliance on skills and knowledgeDuties may include some or all of the following:

• analyze information and data to make decisions and provide recommendations for review by senior staff
• prepare correspondence on routine matters and draft documentation on complex matters for review by senior staff
• draft a range of written material including reports and corporate documentation for review by senior staff
• provide advice and technical expertise to staff and stakeholders
• develop and maintain stakeholder relationships regarding information handling practices
• assist business areas with the resolution of escalated issues and referring matters as appropriate, submitting such advice for review by senior staff, maintain and use information stored in databases, and contribute to reports
• facilitate the privacy compliance activities of business areas and check adherence with relevant procedures and legislation
• contribute to facilitating the development and implementation of improvements and privacy best practice in processes and procedures
• maintain and file records in accordance with information management processes and security requirements
• assist senior staff in the exercise of decisions appropriate to their role in accordance with legislation, guidelines, delegations and scope of authority
• assist with the mentoring of and training of new staff to build knowledge and capability
• monitor and report on workloads, priorities and practice.

Knowledge and understanding of:

• legislation, policies, procedures and information management requirements relevant to the work area
• the agency’s privacy, ethics, workplace health and safety and security protocols
• relevant business systems and tools.

• support and provide assistance to others
• organize and prioritize work in the context of competing priorities
• communicate confidently and present messages in a clear, concise and articulate manner
• build relationships and engage with diverse groups of people
• apply established criteria and make accurate evidence-based decisions
• apply accuracy and attention to detail.
