We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Privacy Officer to join our growing privacy team in responding to privacy matters and conducting privacy assessments across our schools and corporate offices. You will be comfortable providing advice in relation to the department's privacy management and compliance, and play a key role in protecting the personal information of our students, staff and parent community. As a Senior Privacy Officer, you will help champion a culture of privacy by design and engage across the department on a diverse range of business initiatives to ensure privacy principles are embedded at the outset. As the Senior Privacy Officer, you will:
- Provide and review policy and operational advice in relation to the department's privacy management and compliance with the Information Privacy Act 2009 and its statutory obligations under relevant privacy frameworks.
- Maintain currency of State and Federal privacy legislation to research, analyse, investigate, manage, and respond to privacy breaches, complaints, requests for advice, and the development and delivery of privacy training.
- Provide advice to departmental staff in relation to privacy management and compliance with the Information Privacy Act 2009 and associated Information Privacy Principles, and other relevant Privacy and other legislation.
- Contribute to the research, development and implementation of departmental policies, procedures, standards and guidelines based on State and Federal legislative and regulatory requirements, State Government policy and directives, and industry best practice regarding Privacy and information management governance across the department.
- Contribute to the maintenance and communication of the department's privacy management plan for maturing the department's privacy management practices; and identify the impact of any relevant legislative, regulatory or industry best practice changes on the department.
- Engage with relevant State and Federal privacy regulatory bodies, industry stakeholders, internal and external stakeholders to ensure that privacy management practices and data ethics considerations are managed appropriately, escalating instances of inadequate protection of student, staff and parent/carer personal information.
- Prepare materials and advice in consultation with relevant departmental business units to enable the Manager and Principal Privacy Officer to engage in communications and mediations with the Office of the Information Commissioner or Office of the Australian Information Commissioner and support the carriage of privacy matters lodged with the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
- Conduct Privacy Impact Assessments, identify and address privacy risk and mitigation strategies, make recommendations and prepare reports of the department's statutory compliance with information privacy handling practices.
- Manage multiple simultaneous privacy matters, handle competing priorities, deliver quality work outcomes and ensure legislative needs are achieved within scheduled scope and timeframe.
- Develop and deliver training and provide guidance to departmental employees on contemporary privacy management practice and the department's obligations under relevant statutory privacy frameworks.
- Share knowledge and work in collaboration with other staff within the privacy team and departmental business units.
- Other suitable duties, consistent with the duties and responsibilities of the position as directed by the supervisor or nominated delegate.
