The Team
The Parliamentary, Governance and Assurance Section brings together three key functions that support the agency to:
- deliver service to the portfolio ministers and Parliament;
- govern with structure and integrity; and
- have confidence that business activities achieve objectives.
The Opportunity
The Governance team manages the smooth operation of the secretariat function for a number of key corporate committees, sub-committees and working groups.

In this role you will:
- Assist the Assistant Director in the provision of Governance services to the agency to ensure the agency satisfies its legislative obligations under the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 and all related policy and guidelines.
- Provide secretariat services to the key committees in the AEC's governance framework including, quality review of papers submitted for each meeting, management of Action Registers and development of meeting minutes.
- Draft strategic reports and briefing papers on complex issues for presentation to the committees that form the AEC's governance framework.
- Develop Standard Operation Procedures associated with secretariat function.
- Provide analysis on complex issues and contribute to the management, preparation, and coordination of policy formulation and/or project management.
- Develop and support key internal and external relationships, including managing stakeholders to achieve work area and agency goals.
- Provide accurate specialist advice, guidance, and reporting on team functional responsibilities.
- Make and communicate decisions using good judgement, expertise, and knowledge, governed by legislation, regulations, best practice principles or relevant operating instructions and procedures.
- May be required to supervise a team to ensure high quality outputs, including the development of team members at lower classifications, building team capacity, and encouraging career development.
- Perform additional duties or assume responsibility of functions as directed from time to time.
- Knowledge and experience in the areas of corporate governance and/or a willingness to obtain qualifications in this area.
- Knowledge and experience in successfully setting priorities and delivering quality results on time and on budget.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively whilst anticipating stakeholder needs and expectations at all levels of seniority across a geographically dispersed network.
- Proven analytical abilities to propose and facilitate change and contribute to business improvement strategies.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in corporate governance, public administration or similar.
- Knowledge of, or ability to, quickly gain knowledge of Australian electoral law and practice.

Security Requirements
Some positions may require an applicant to gain and maintain a security clearance in addition to pre-employment screening.
This position requires candidates to obtain and hold a Baseline security clearance.
Pre employment screening includes a check on police records, identity check and checks addressing agency specific on political neutrality. Talent Pool
