Your new role
The Senior Media Officer is required to work within the Department’s Marketing and Communications Branch to support the Organisation by developing and implementing strategic communications and media materials, ensuring all messaging aligns with the strategic narrative of the Organisation.
Key responsibilities:
- Developing, implementing and evaluating a range of communications projects and programs.
- Drafting high quality communication and media products, including -
- Talking points
- Media releases and responses
- Briefs and coordinate briefings
- Coordinate interviews and interview requests
- Transcripts
- Newsletters
- Social Media content
- Data analysis and reporting
- Media reports and summaries
- Communicating and liaising with diverse internal and external stakeholders, including subject matter experts, spokespeople, senior executives, other Government departments and agencies and Ministerial offices
What you'll need to succeed
- Demonstrated understanding of the Australian news media landscape
- Experience communicating and interpreting complex issues in simple language.
- The ability to utilise the Adobe Creative Suite in combination with MS Word, Excel, SharePoint, and PowerPoint for presentation and reporting purposes
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a small team of specialists
- Must be highly organised and possess excellent oral and written communication skills to support a range of high-profile projects
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while working effectively under pressure in a changing environment.
- Excellent work ethic, able to self-manage and progress tasks independently
- Degree in journalism, media and communications/marketing or another relevant field
- Minimum 5 years working in media relations, journalism or external communications
- MUST be an Australian citizen with the ability to obtain a security clearance if required
