About the position

We are seeking an experienced Area Operations Manager who will provide effective leadership, planning, and resources to achieve project zero harm, safe systems of work, quality, performance, financial objectives, and operational targets. In this role, you will be critical in actively managing current customer requirements and expectations, as well as pursuing other opportunities across the Bowen Basin region. Accordingly, travel is required to our sites in the Bowen Basin and surrounding regions.

Reporting to Regional Operations Manager – East, you will motivate, inspire, and keep your people safe and well whilst growing in leadership skills, and operational and commercial acumen.

Core accountabilities include:

  • Promote and develop business opportunities across the Operations East business, in line with Enaex’s broader strategy
  • Oversee operations for our sites in the Bowen Basin region working with five direct reports
  • Be an inspiring role model and coach for values driven behaviours, practices and processes, whilst providing leadership, development and support to our site operations teams
  • Develop and manage client relationships with a view of promoting Enaex Australia
  • Drive a strong safety culture which ensures adherence to procedures, site standards and legislation.
  • Lead, organise, develop and motivate your teams to meet expectations and targets, while building meaningful succession pathways for your staff
  • Continually strive to improve P&L in line with project costs, forecasts and budgets
  • Identify workplace issues and resolve them in a timely manner in accordance with ER/HR policies, standards and procedures
  • Keep abreast with technical skills updates and best practices
  • Work collaboratively and foster relationships with key stakeholders to achieve wider business objectives
  • Promote a culture of continual improvement throughout the operations team
  • Be fully aware of the contract terms for each operational site in your remit and actively manage current customer requirements and expectations.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly reports to be provided to the customer.

Essential requirements

  • Extensive experience in Mining/Drill and Blast Operations
  • Considerable experience around asset management / maintenance planning
  • Strong knowledge of dangerous goods and explosives legislation
  • Demonstrated positive safety leadership skills and safety behaviour
  • Effective people management experience and skills
  • High degree of commercial acumen with exposure to budgeting, invoicing and P&L’s
  • S1, S2, S3, G1, G2 Certifications
  • Strong organisational, communication and planning skills
  • Intermediate level of computer literacy and the ability to analyse data
  • Knowledge, experience or training in Risk Management
  • Ability to develop strong, long-term relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure environment

Desirable requirements

  • Relevant tertiary education
  • Qualifications and experience in the mining or explosives industry
  • TAE Certification
  • Relevant Industry RII’s – MPU Operations / Shotfiring
