SESL Australia has evolved over 40 years and is now one of Australia’s leading Soil, Environmental, Water and Plant Science Laboratory and Consultancy service. In the role of Asbestos Laboratory Technician, you will be working on-site with our Laboratory team in conjunction with our Soil, Environmental, Resource Recovery and Horticulture Scientists.

You will be based at our NATA accredited Laboratory in Thornleigh, Sydney and will be conducting routine analysis in soil, bulk, and building materials, as well as assisting in maintaining the laboratory quality systems.
Key duties include:
- Routine preparation and analysis of soil and building materials samples
- Performing asbestos identification on a range of materials including building materials and soil
- Becoming an approved signatory for asbestos identification
- Participating in external and internal proficiency testing as required by SESL Australia
- Carrying out scheduled instrument calibration and maintenance in accordance with documented procedures
- Understanding and upholding general laboratory QA/QC criteria and NATA accreditation requirements as part of ISO17025, along with ensuring the quality of data produced fulfills the requirements of SESL Australia’s quality policy and NATA certification
- Other testing, duties and responsibilities as directed by the laboratory management team
- Maintaining Signatory status
There is future scope to be involved in field sampling as required by the business.
This role is offered on a full-time basis.
About You
We are seeking talented Asbestos Laboratory Technicians who want to advance their career with a well-established and trusted niche laboratory. You must meet the following criteria, otherwise your Application will not be considered:
- Experience in Asbestos analysis using PLM/Dispersion staining technique (essential)
- Appropriate tertiary qualification desirable, TAFE certificates (as a minimum)
- Previous signatory status in asbestos identification
- A self-motivated individual with attention to detail and the ability to work unsupervised
- Excellent organisational skills
- A commitment to safety, quality, and the environment
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to apply initiative
- Australian drivers' licence
