Australian Sports Commission Graduate Program

Why Choose Us

Sport has a place for everyone and delivers results that make Australia proud.

As we progress through the defining era of the Green and Gold decade to Brisbane 2032, the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) has a clear role in providing opportunities for all communities to be involved in sport, while growing elite success and representation, inspiring future generations.

We are the Australian Government agency responsible for supporting and investing in sport at all levels. We strive to increase involvement in sport and enable continued international sporting success.

We do this through leadership and development of a cohesive and effective sports sector, targeted financial support, and the operation of the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS).

We play a unique role in the sport ecosystem, and tackle the big challenges and opportunities with (and for) the sector.

Our ASC Graduate Program:

  • bridges the gap between formal education and a professional workplace
  • gives you access to the very best leaders of business and sport in Australia
  • will help you develop your skills in decision-making, communication and leadership
  • will help you grow personally, ensuring you embody our workplace core values of Respect, Integrity, Teamwork and Excellence.

Through our vision, we aim to bring out the best in everyone involved in sport as we establish Australia as the worlds best sporting nation.

Dont hesitate, jump on board and apply now for our newly established ASC Graduate Program. Opportunities like these dont come up very often - join our workforce and help us build sustainable success in Australian sport for decades to come.

What we are looking for

The ASC, incorporating the AIS, is looking for dynamic, adaptable candidates who embody a unique blend of problem-solving prowess, innovative drive, and strong ambition.

Our ideal candidates will excel in written and verbal communication, and be capable of fostering effective relationships built on solid foundations of respect and integrity. They will demonstrate commitment to growth and a passion for continuous improvement, thriving on feedback and valuing diversity in experience in perspectives. Importantly, they will be active contributors to the conversation, pushing projects forward with their team.

Our NEW Graduate Program

As an ASC graduate, you will complete one of two learning pathways during your two-year program:

  • The Strategic Operations (Strat-Ops) pathway offers a wide variety of roles, with graduates completing four rotations in areas such as policy development, governance, sports administration, and business management. The roles you undertake may include tasks such as analysis and research; coordination and planning; program and project management; drafting of correspondence, reports, briefs, and submissions; and a variety of other tasks to support the strategic operation and goals of the ASC.
  • The Technical Specialist (Tech-Spec) pathway is focused on driving innovation through specialist data and digital expertise. Graduates will complete two rotations with placements based on their domain of specialty, including (but not limited to) cybersecurity, enterprise architecture, machine learning, data analysis, business analysis, and UX/UI design.

All ASC Graduates will receive:

  • An early launch - with the ASCs Graduate Program commencing in October 2023, you get a head-start on other Graduate Programs offered by other government agencies.
  • A structured learning and development program, focused on enhancing new and existing capabilities, to support graduates careers at the ASC and within the broader Australian Public Service and sports sector
  • Regular networking opportunities with your ASC graduate cohort, and with graduates from other agencies
  • Learning opportunities with industry leaders in exclusive Executive Masterclass sessions, offering valuable insights into the strategic aspects of sports sector management
  • An extended 24-month program, which offers a deeper and more comprehensive learning experience. During the second year of the program, you will have the opportunity to undertake a short placement within the sports sector, and will also contribute to a large-scale organisational project
