We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Accountant to supports the Finance and Accounting Manager with daily accounting duties to ensure accuracy and efficiency in the processing of all transactional data within the accounting system. It is also expected that the Assistant Accountant role will develop to assist with maintaining the established financial reporting.

Key Role Responsibilities
Assist with end of month processes and gradually take responsibility for various reconciliations and process improvements as determined by the growth of the organisation
Oversee the day-to-day financial transactions within the organisation, including: accounts payable and receivable invoicing, general journals, balance sheet reconciliations, bank account reconciliations, and other transactions in the accounting package
Oversee the accuracy and timeliness of transactions posted in the accounting package by the Finance Officer with account codes, job codes and GST codes
Oversee the accuracy of processing accounts payable and accounts receivable invoicing
Responsible for the credit control functions to ensure all payments are received in a timely manner and raising any overdue payments with Finance and Accounting Manager
Oversee the weekly review of the bank accounts and ensure that all payments in and out of the working accounts have been coded into the relevant accounting software system, ensuring all outstanding items are followed up within 5 business days
Assist with payroll processing and liaising with external payroll company
Support, mentor and back fill the positions of the Finance Officers as required
Essential requirements
Qualifications:
Tertiary qualification in business, finance, commerce, or other relevant field of study (or substantial progress towards completion) would be considered favourably
As a minimum a bookkeeping or finance TAFE degree)
Knowledge of, and experience working with, Australian Accounting Standards.
Demonstrated experience in the preparation of month end or annual accounts.
A thorough understanding of financial governance practices.
Payroll Experience would be considered favourably
Minimum of three years experience in a similar role.
Experience with accounting, purchasing and banking software.
Experience in external and internal audits
Requirements (or ability to obtain)
- A valid current Western Australian Driver’s Licence
- First Aid Certificate
- Working with Children Check
- National Police Clearance
- Clearance from Department of Communities (application on appointment)
