12 month fixed-term role – maternity leave cover The role of the Assistant Accountant is to monitor daily cash flows, prepare bank reconciliations, prepare the monthly fixed asset reconciliation and accruals and assist with general ledger reconciliations, monthly transaction processing and other tasks as required. In addition, the Assistant Accountant will assist Peter Mac's audit process and compliance obligations.

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:
- Experience providing analysis and support to identify and resolve financial accounting issues with reconciliations, prepayments and accruals.
- Experience working with large integrated commercial finance systems and reporting software along with excellent computer literacy skills such as Microsoft Excel.
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to contribute in a team environment

Position Summary

1. Banking and Cash management
Monitoring daily cash flows, including payments are processed on the scheduled day.
Complete regular bank reconciliations, resolving all queries in a timely manner and escalating any significant risks to Senior staff.
Information provided to support the daily, weekly and monthly cash flow forecasting.
Banking systems administration and relationship support, including set up of users and liaising with the bank on queries.
- Bank accounts are managed to ensure scheduled payments are processed on the day payments are scheduled andndash target 100%
- Bank Reconciliations are accurate and completed on time each month.
- Banking cash management with adherence to the standing directions of the Minister for Finance andndash 100% compliance with the standing direction 4.5.6.
- Banking user access accurately reflects appropriate delegation.
2. Month end processing
Expense prepayment and accruals management, including calculations and journaling.
Research core cost accounting including reallocation of costs between clusters and labs.
Regular month end accounting transaction processing and assistance with general ledger reconciliations and other tasks as required.
- Accurate and complete accounting for prepayment and accruals.
- Month end journals and reconciliations completed accurately as per the published timetable.
3. Financial Acquittal Reporting
Assistance with financial reporting of research grant/trial and commercial sponsored research. Communication with key stakeholders.
- Compliance with funding body requirements
- Timely turn around on checking data for accuracy.
4. Stakeholder Management and Communication
Manage key stakeholder relationships. Lead and drive proactive approach to financial problem solving and decision making.
- Strong partnerships with key stakeholders, including University of Melbourne, Internal and External Auditors.
5. Project Work and Other Support as Required
Project work to ensure continuous improvement for all Finance processes. Supporting other areas of the Finance Division as required.
- Evidence of contributing to broader continuous improvement initiatives or deliverables within the Finance Division and/or Peter Mac.
