Role Details
The Assistant Cook is a role within Kurlana Tapa Youth Justice Centre and is accountable to the Catering and Stores Supervisor for:
• Assisting with the provision of a high quality, efficient and effective catering service into the Youth Training Centre.
• Maintaining an appropriate level of security in a custodial environment.
Key outcomes and accountabilities:
1. Contribute to the preparation, plating and packaging of food and meals, whilst taking into consideration dietary requirements and assisting with the preparation of special dietary meals.
2. Follow standard recipes and procedures when cooking, heating or chilling foods, and apply appropriate methods of food preparation to maintain a high-quality product.
3. Assist with the preparation of food for special functions.
4. Work in accordance with unit objectives and procedures which may include residents participating in the preparation and serving of meals.
5. Adhere to safe food handling and hygiene policies and practices and participate in quality assurance programs to ensure the work area and equipment is maintained and clean.
6. Participate in relevant training and development activities and comply with all Training Centre security procedures.
7. Perform work in a safe manner while adhering to all Training Centre WHS and security procedures. This includes understanding and following safety initiatives, identifying hazards and contributing to a safe working environment, as well as following procedures to manage and minimise risks within the Department.
Note: Any other responsibilities in line with the classification level of the role as assigned by Line Manager and/or the Department. The responsibilities as specified above may be altered in accordance with the changing requirements of the role.

Some out of hours work may be required.
Some interstate and intrastate travel may be required.
Must hold a current Australian issued driver’s licence (equivalent to minimum class C)An appropriate Trade cooking qualification or equivalent is desirable.
Role Status: Term up to 04/04/2025. Casual & Full Time Contracts available.
Salary Range: $54,227.25-$54,806.30 (GSE2)
