We have an exceptional career opportunity for a passionate and dedicated Assistant Curator to join our team to support our global reputation as a leading international company for public art.

About the Role

You will be responsible for supporting UAP’s Australian curatorial team to develop exciting and innovative public art strategies, art masterplans and art opportunity reports, developing curatorial visions and rationales, curating artist selections and briefing, liaising and supporting national and international artists.

About You

You are a creative thinker and self-starter with lots of initiative, excellent writing skills and the ability to work as part of a team. This position provides you with the opportunity to assist in the curation of public art projects of significance on a global scale. You will be passionate about, and have knowledge of, contemporary art practice and its application to the public realm with a good knowledge of emerging and established artists and designers. You will have excellent research and writing skills, with fastidious attention to detail. You thrive in a busy and high-performing team environment.

What You Need to Succeed

As a minimum, the successful candidate will hold a degree or higher qualification in Curatorial studies, Art History, Visual Arts/Design or similar. Previous experience working in the creative industries is highly desirable. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:

§    Good knowledge of contemporary artists and designers nationally and internationally

§    Good knowledge and appreciation of public art projects nationally and internationally

§    A demonstrated ability to write creatively, with excellent research skills

§    Understanding of gallery contractual standards, artist copyright and moral rights.

§    High-level communication and organisational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines, in a high-pressure creative environment.

§    Ability to be adaptive and self-sufficient whilst also being a proactive team member.

§    A strong desire to work collaboratively with a passionate and dedicated team willing to do whatever it takes to deliver projects on time in a fast-changing environment.

§    Excellent attention to detail and general administration skills.

§    Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills.

§    An eye for crafting distinctive visual presentations.

§    Proficiency in Microsoft Office as a minimum with knowledge of InDesign highly desirable.

The role is full-time with a standard 6-month probationary period.
