We are seeking an Assistant Director of Community Engagement across our FWO office locations. Full-time and part-time hours are available. Offers will be based on candidate performance and operational requirements.About the OFWOThe Office of the Fair Work Ombudsman (OFWO) is an independent statutory office established by the Fair Work Act 2009 (Fair Work Act). Our functions outline the responsibilities we have as set by the Fair Work Act and other legislation to achieve our purpose:
  • provide education, assistance, advice and guidance to employers, employees, outworkers, outworker entities and organisations
  • promote and monitor compliance with workplace laws
  • inquire into and investigate breaches of the Fair Work Act
  • take appropriate enforcement action
  • perform our statutory functions efficiently, effectively, economically and ethically.

  • The successful candidate must hold a current Australian Government Security Clearance (AGSVA) or be willing to undergo and obtain a Baseline security clearance.
A range of other conditions may be required depending on the role you are applying for.About the TeamThe Community Engagement team within the Engagement Branch undertakes a range of outreach activities to promote awareness of the FWO and a culture of workplace compliance. This includes initiatives that support the FWO's approach to priority areas, and targeted engagement strategies designed to increase the FWO's educational reach for vulnerable workplace participants and small businesses.Typical DutiesThe duties of this role include, however, are not limited to:
  • Identifying, developing and maintaining productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including other Government agencies, embassies and consulates, small business peak bodies and community organisations
  • Leading the design, implementation and evaluation of relevant strategies, including the coordination of the FWO webinars program, workplace relations workshops, small business engagement, and other outreach activities
  • Producing high-level written materials, including briefs, correspondence, strategies and project-related documentation
  • Managing project work including procurement
  • Co-ordinating the implementation and reporting of internal working groups and relevant policies
  • Representing the FWO in external meetings, forums, roundtables, committees, and speaking engagements
  • Managing and motivating a small, geographically dispersed team and effectively managing resources to achieve strategic outcomes with tight timeframes.
What we are looking forWe are seeking an individual who can lead a small, geographically dispersed team to deliver and maintain a wide range of activities with high quality outcomes, including drafting correspondence and briefing materials, strategies and project plans, undertaking research, and leading the development and delivery of Branch projects including engagement strategies.The successful applicant will possess the following attributes:
  • must be able to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to improve outcomes for vulnerable workers and small business
  • have experience managing and upskilling staff to support their development and ensure appropriate workforce management across a range of projects
  • have experience contributing to strategy development and implementation, and experience managing major projects
  • strong analysis and writing skills are essential, as is initiative, interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • experience in delivering high quality presentations, digitally and face to face, to a wide range of Government and non-government audiences
  • aware of, and sensitive to, issues relating to vulnerable workers in Australia including strong political nous and have experience developing collaborative networks and managing senior stakeholder relationships
Selection Criteria
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating, managing and delivering strategic projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to strategically consider organisational priorities, Government policy and the external environment when performing tasks.
  • Excellent stakeholder and relationship management skills with the ability to develop strong, productive and collaborative networks.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills and the ability to translate complex information into succinct materials for different audiences.
  • Experience managing geographically dispersed teams including strong capabilities in planning, prioritising and managing personal and team workloads to deliver outcomes in a high-pressure environment, within tight timeframes and in liaison with multiple senior stakeholders.
