This mid-size federal government agency based in central Canberra has partnered with Hays to assist in sourcing for their new Assistant Direct - ICT PMO. With a significant slate of current funding for various ICT based programs, the agency is looking for an experienced ICT Project Manager/PMO Manager to oversee and manage all aspects of project management, ensuring their alignment with organisational goals.
Your new role
Reporting directly to the Director of Technology Delivery Office, this role requires someone with strong demonstrated experience in ICT projects leadership and PMO management. Day to day, your duties will include:
Assist the Director of the Technology Delivery Office in setting strategic direction and priorities for project management initiatives aligned with organisational goals.
Provide leadership and guidance to project managers and team members to ensure projects are executed effectively and efficiently.
Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the PMO.
Oversee the development and management of the project portfolios, including prioritisation, resource allocation, and budget tracking.
Monitor project performance against established goals, metrics, and key performance indicators (KPIs), and implement corrective actions as needed.
Conduct regular portfolio reviews to assess project status, risks, and dependencies, and communicate findings to senior leadership.
Drive continuous improvement of project management processes, methodologies, and tools to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
Establish and enforce project management standards, policies, and governance frameworks across the organisation.
Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, industry standards, and best practices in project management.
Serve as a primary point of contact for senior leadership and stakeholders on project-related matters, providing regular updates and insights.
Facilitate communication and collaboration amongst project teams, stakeholders, and cross-functional departments to ensure alignment and transparency.
Manage expectations and resolve conflicts to maintain positive relationships and support project success.
Mentor and coach project managers and team members to build their project management skills and capabilities.
Identify training and development needs within the PMO and coordinate opportunities for skill enhancement and career growth.
Foster a supportive and inclusive work environment that promotes teamwork, accountability, and professional growth.
What you'll need to succeed
Essential
- Minimum 3 years' experience in ICT project management or ICT Project Management Office roles
- Strong understanding of project management methodologies and ability to deliver continual to the ICT Project Management process and associated delivery processes
- Proven ability to foster high-performing teams through empowering and mentoring.
Desirable
- Experience working with government organisations and understanding of government processes and regulations.
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing complex multi-stakeholder processes within a large enterprise organisation.
