Job description

The Team

The Event Recruitment and Management Teams sit within the Event Workforce Optimisation Taskforce (EWOT) in National Office. Each team is located in their respective State and Territory Office and assists with the recruitment and management of the AEC’s event workforce, which includes surge staffing and the Temporary Election Workforce (TEW), in the delivery of an electoral event.

The Event Recruitment and Management Team will implement a nationally consistent workforce attraction model locally and will utilise peer network capabilities to collaborate, provide support and create efficiencies.

The EWOT team is also responsible for analysing current electoral event workforce challenges and opportunities, and collating and co-designing innovative and effective solutions to optimise the experience and performance of the event workforce. The team is responsible for developing and implementing candidate attraction strategies to recruit for the AEC’s 100,000 TEW staff nationally.

The Opportunity

While working remotely in your state, the Workforce Lead reports to the Director of EWOT. You will be responsible for managing the recruitment and staffing activities for the AEC’s event workforce. During electoral events, this will be a fast-paced and high-pressure environment where key staffing milestones and immutable deadlines will need to be met.

In this role, you will be required to implement a nationally consistent workforce attraction model to deliver quality outcomes in relation to attracting suitable candidates to the event workforce. Your day-to-day functions may involve performing or managing recruitment activities, contract management for the engagement of labour hire personnel, and administration related to the training of TEW staff in your state/territory.

Using your highly developed people skills and experience, you will work closely with your State or Territory’s Operations team to oversee and understand their staffing requirements. You will provide guidance and assurance on all aspects of staff attraction, onboarding and management processes.

You will manage a small team of staff monitoring and managing timelines, milestones, and key contractual staffing deliverables in the lead up to and during an electoral event. You and your team will be required to analyse complex data, produce accurate and timely reports and information regarding event workforce sourcing and allocation, with a focus on areas of concern.

As part of the continuous improvement and innovation of AEC’s staffing approach for future electoral events, the Workforce Lead will also contribute to EWOT’s work in uplifting event workforce attraction and the management of the event workforce, to ensure the AEC continues to make evidenced-based decisions to attract, develop and maintain a highly capable, agile and trusted temporary workforce.

To excel you’ll have:

  • Demonstrated experience in delivering projects, including large-scale recruitment projects (or equivalent), within agreed timeframes and budgets, in a highly operational and legislated environment.
  • Strong and demonstrated stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to identify opportunities, achieve outcomes and facilitate cooperation. Demonstrated ability to work remotely as part of a geographically dispersed team and to work collaboratively within an executive leadership team.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and empower staff while developing capabilities and encouraging career development.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to anticipate stakeholder needs and manage expectations across a geographically dispersed network.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to undertake reporting and assurance activities and identify and implement business improvement strategies in line with relevant policy and legislative frameworks.

Desirable

  • Demonstrated experience in strategic workforce planning and reporting.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in human resources or similar.

Eligibility

  • AEC employees must be Australian citizens.
  • Any person who is, and seen to be active in political affairs, and intends to publicly carry on this activity, may compromise the strict neutrality of the AEC and cannot be considered.
  • Applicants are required to consent to, undergo, obtain and maintain a character clearance.
  • Applicants are required to consent to, undergo, obtain and maintain the security clearance required for this role.
  • Applicants may be required to undertake psychometric testing as part of this recruitment process.
