Assistant Hatchery Manager

APG Workforce are currently on the lookout for an Assistant Hatchery Manager based in the Griffith area. 

** Poultry experience is a MUST **

The Role: 

• The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and highly proactive leader with poultry and managerial experience.
• The position of Assistant Hatchery Manager is primarily responsible for assisting the Hatchery Manager in the operation of a commercial Hatchery in all aspects.
• The operation of the Hatchery involves receiving fertile eggs from the commercial farms or hatcheries, production and despatch of day old chicks, maintenance of the Hatchery and equipment, meeting customer chick quality requirements and meeting legislative and regulatory requirements related to the operation of a poultry Hatchery. This position must also optimise Hatchery performance and cost control through good leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage and coordinate hatchery activities such as, egg pick-up and deliveries, setting and incubation organisation, grading, vaccination, and preparation and transportation of chicks
• Oversee Quality Assurance/Quality Control program
• Manage and maintain weekly hatch schedules providing proper number of birds to broiler farms
• Direct supervision of workers
• Monitor and manage facility equipment and repairs, addressing maintenance issues.
• Keep a current knowledge of industry trends and information regarding hatchery equipment and operations
• Manage animal welfare program
• Oversee hatchery sanitation
• Manage chick care, maintenance, packing and transfer activities
• Comply with all company policies, animal welfare guideline
• Comply with safety and company’s guidelines on business ethics.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.
• Complete machine checking and calibration

  
Skills and Experience Required:

• Current state drivers licence
• Ability to work in a team environment to resolve problems or improve systems
• Previous experience in a similar role, preferably in a manufacturing environment
• Prior knowledge and understanding of Workplace Health and Safety Systems in the work place
• Structured training in computer database and spread sheet use
  Experience in dealing with workplace incidents and injuries, with regulators, and in conflict resolution
• Experience in conducting regular safety inspection
