What you'll be doing
Eating Disorder Intensive Day Program (EDIPA) at Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick is jointly managed by The Department of Psychological Medicine and the Department of Adolescent Medicine. This is the largest service in Australia, treating young people with anorexia nervosa and other Eating Disorders from all over New South Wales. Inpatient re-feeding admissions, outpatient treatment, intensive day treatment, family admission program, parent groups and an extensive family therapy program are offered. The EDS also has a well-established clinical research program and regular provides training, education and supervision to other services.
The primary role of Assistant in Nursing (AIN) is to assist with the supervision of meals within the Day Program, as well as co-ordination of external catering. The position may require the assistant to prepare light meals and snacks, maintain kitchen and food supplies, set up and clear patient meal areas and undertake cleaning duties within the kitchen and food service areas.
The AIN will also assist in the provision of basic nursing care such as measuring and recording of height and weight, taking clinical observation of patients, and assisting the clinical team in engaging and de-escalating of eating disorder patients. The AIN would be in direct supervision of the Clinical Nurse Consultant Grade 1, and are not to be allocated their own patients.
The AIN is responsible for assisting in the delivery of quality individualized care to patients in the Eating Disorder Day Program (SCHN) within the guidelines set by the NSW Department of Health, the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council Framework.
The AIN will:
Maintain patient confidentiality at all times
Demonstrate ethical behavioural in their performance
Understand and respect patients' rights
Provide evidence of completion of annual mandatory training
Practice within the NSW Health guidelines, the position description and guidelines for the SCHN and are required to adhere to Policies and Procedures
Adhere to NSW Health Code of Conduct

- Completion of HLT32507 Certificate III in Health Services Assistance (Descriptor Assisting in Nursing Work in Acute Care)
- Demonstrated ability to be an effective team member
- Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Relevant experience as an Assisting in Nursing in an acute care area
- Demonstrated effective time management skills
- Must be able to work day shift Monday-Friday each week
