We are currently looking for a permanent full time Assistant Legal Editor to join our Content and Communication team.

The Content and Communications team sits within the Membership and Engagement department. We aim to meet our members’ needs through the provision of critical, relevant and engaging content that will help them thrive and excel as practitioners.
About the role
Assistant Legal Editor is an integral part of the Law Society Journal (LSJ) team, specifically assisting with commissioning and development of legal updates content. You will edit, copywrite and provide production assistance where required, for all Content and Communications team work, with primary responsibility to LSJ Legal Updates.
What you'll be doing
- Research and develop strong ideas for legal updates content in conjunction with the Legal Editor and the editorial team.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key figures within the legal profession, as well as communications teams and other contacts through which strong content can be generated.
- Approach legal professionals to write legal updates for LSJ and liaise with them to ensure deadlines are met and guidelines are adhered to.
- Edit and rewrite commissioned articles where necessary.
- Keep abreast of issues pertinent to the legal profession.
- Communicate ideas for layout with the creative director.
- Proofing, fact checking, sub-editing and general editing duties.
- Publication of digital content on WordPress, as well as development of pages in InDesign for print production.
- Ensure accurate, timely and efficient flow of production work to meet deadlines as required.
About you
- Experience in researching, commissioning and editing legal and/or academic content.
- Law degree.
- Knowledge of the NSW and Australian political and legal systems.
- Experience in print and digital magazine production.
- Excellent writing, grammatical and communication skills.
- Exceptional research skills.
- Strong editing skills with an eye for detail.
- Ability to consistently generate ideas for content relevant to the readership
- Experience in working to deadlines.
- Publications design and layout skills, including intermediate skill level with Word, InDesign and WordPress.
- Project management skills.
- Ability to use clear, concise language in correspondence.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to structure, engage and present information clearly and interestingly to various audiences.
- Confident self-starter and ability to think creatively.
- Demonstrated ability to be adaptive and accepting of new ideas, and a willingness to approach new challenges.
