Our client a prestigious property located in the New England region of NSW is seeking an experienced Assistant Manager to join their team. Spanning over 10,000 hectares of prime country carrying superfine merino sheep – consisting of 15,000 ewes, 12,000 wethers, 10,000 lambs, 600 stud ewes, and running 2,000 head of black baldy breeders. The Assistant Manager will work alongside the property manager overseeing the day-to-day operations of the property. With the property running approximately 40,000 head of sheep in total, our client is committed to excellence in the livestock industry and is seeking an enthusiastic individual who shares their passion. This role entails but is not limited to:
- Collaborate closely with management to ensure the smooth running of the daily operations
- Ensure all company Occupational Health and Safety guidelines are adhered to
- Demonstrate strong leadership skills and experience in training junior staff, and supervising 6 full – time staff members daily
- Supervise the operational activities of the property and livestock work, with mustering via 2 wheeler motorbikes and working dogs
- Collaborate with contractors and shearing teams in an efficient manner
- Process large numbers of sheep and cattle with low-stress stock-handling skills
- Work with the property management to implement property improvements
- General property maintenance, including fencing and water maintenance
- Competently operate farm machinery and equipment, including minor repairs and maintenance
- Competent computer skills and experience with Ag programs such as Agriwebb and TruTest for recording livestock data
To be considered for this role, we are looking for candidates who demonstrate the following attributes:
- Demonstrated experience in the livestock industry, preferably with merino sheep
- Strong leadership abilities with a proven track record of training and supervising junior staff
- Has a strong work ethic in addition to processing excellent problem-solving skills;
- Is honest, reliable, organised, and self-motivated
- Solid communication skills
- Capable of working independently and as part of a team
- Committed to upholding safety standards and promoting a culture of workplace safety
- Possesses a current Chemcert certificate or is willing to obtain
- Educated working dogs
- HR licence advantageous
This role includes a spacious 3-bedroom home with reverse cycles and wood heating set in a well-maintained lawn with extra benefits such as; electricity, meat, phone, internet, and work vehicle. Within 35km of the small vibrant community of Walcha, you will have access to primary and high schools, supermarkets, a newsagency, a post office, and other amenities. Walcha located within the New England region is within 50 minutes of Tamworth and a 50-minute drive to Armidale providing access to larger amenities and services.
