Job description

Stomping Ground Morris Moor is looking for a high impact Assistant Venue Manager to nurture the team, drive service standards and to pay attention to the small details that have a big impact.First established in 2016 in Collingwood, Stomping Ground is a neighbourhood brewery bringing people together over a great beer. With Brewery & Beer Halls already in Collingwood and at Melbourne Airport, we opened our third at Morris Moor in 2021. The project was managed by Studio Y and Placeformspace to revitalise an old cigarette factory boiler room that works hand-in-hand with resourcefulness and sustainability to create a European inspired beer hall and unique event space.

As the Assistant Venue Manager you are the right hand to the Venue Manager. Together you’ll be as iconic a duo as Batman and Robin, Han Solo and Chewbacca, Mario and Luigi, Thelma and Louise, Mulder and Scully...need we go on? This role is responsible for assisting the day-to-day running of the venue, each day is different and the tasks will vary wildly, so it is important to be efficient, driven and have great problem solving skills.

Reporting to the Venue Manager, this role also has multiple touch points to the business so you’ll need to have exceptional stakeholder management and be confident interacting with the CEO, Business Founders, Head Chef, Functions Manager, Duty Managers and casual FOH members alike.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

The key focus of this role is to assist the Venue Manager in all aspects of the day to day running of the venue with key focus areas listed below -

  • Uphold exceptional service standards consistently for yourself and the team
  • Cultivate a positive workplace culture that encourages staff engagement, development and safe work practices
  • Implement strategies to engage staff, promoting teamwork, recognition and job satisfaction.
  • Conduct regular and ad-hoc training, identify potential candidates for development opportunities
  • Take a proactive approach to key relationship development to enhance community engagement at the venue
  • Monitor wages, cost of goods sold (COGS), and all associated costs involved in running the venue. Identify and implement strategies to reduce overheads while ensuring the high level of service that customers expect.
  • Facilitate shift processes, implement changes, and provide comprehensive reporting when required or in the VM’s absence
  • Maintain a strong presence within the team to lead by example and also identify issues before they escalate.

A BIT MORE ABOUT YOU:

  • The successful candidate will understand the importance of providing exceptional service, mostly likely gained from high volume, high reputation dining venues.
  • Experience in a leadership role and proven track record of developing and leading front of house teams
  • Your confidence will inspire the team, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Filtering company and venue goals down through the team for effective execution.
  • You’ve been described as enthusiastic (high energy), flexible, accountable, reliable and passionate
  • High emotional intelligence and communication skills come naturally to you, as does a positive attitude
  • We are open 7 days a week, so you must be available to work a flexible rotating roster that is predominantly service based

We pride ourselves on creating a great place to work. We value a high-performance culture that champions inclusion and diversity. We love ambitious team members and actively create career pathways to enable everyone to fulfill their career goals. Work/life balance is important to us so overtime is a rarity. We offer attractive salaries, employee benefits including meals and discounts with partners and suppliers, of course, there’s our award winning BEER!
