What you’ll be doing
The Associate DirectorAboriginal Strategy and Engagement is a key role in the Office of the Chief Executive and provides leadership and direction, cultural advice and expertise to the Executive and Senior Leadership Teams. This role will provide strategic advice to support organisational priorities that enable the effective co-design and delivery of culturally imperative services aligned with the NSW Cancer Plan and NSW Aboriginal Cancer Strategy to achieve equitable cancer outcomes for the Aboriginal population of NSW.
You will be responsible for providing guidance on building internal cultural capabilities and overseeing the Aboriginal governance frameworks and Aboriginal Advisory Groups. This role , including managing relationships with the Aboriginal Advisory Group, Aboriginal Health & Medical Research Council, Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations, non-government organisations and the Ministry of Health Centre for Aboriginal Health.
In this role you will lead the co-ordination and preparation of internal and external reporting requirements, such as the Aboriginal Health Plan, Health Impact Statements and Reconciliation Action Plan and ensuring the Institute is meeting any statutory obligations aligned to Aboriginal Health strategy, policy and reforms.
Essential to this role will be your strong leadership and communication skills at a senior level, including proven organisational skills, interpersonal, negotiation and advocacy skills and the ability to write high quality reports and documents along with proven capacity to deliver.

In addition to base salary:

- Graduate qualifications in public health or a related discipline, or relevant experience in a similar government environment and role.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with Aboriginal people, communities, and organisations, as well as internal and external stakeholders, and proven experience in navigating complex and diverse stakeholder management to achieve outcomes.
- Sound knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal health policy, legislation and frameworks, and demonstrated experience in policy interpretation, provision of expert strategic recommendations on complex Aboriginal population health issues and the impact on Aboriginal people and communities.
- Superior leadership and communication skills at a senior level, including proven organisational skills, interpersonal, negotiation and advocacy skills and the ability to write high quality reports and documents along with proven capacity to deliver.
