About the opportunity

Are you a passionate Strategic Communications leader with experience inspiring a high performing team to deliver quality work that drives organisational goals and results? We're looking for an Associate Director, Strategic Communications, to lead impactful communication and government relations strategies. You will need proven experience in Strategic Communications leadership roles, with a depth of knowledge of government and media relations, and contemporary multi-channel content practices. Ideally, you will have a background in health and science communications, and share our passion for making a difference.

What you'll be doing

As part of the Strategic Communications Leadership Team, the Associate Director will support the Director of Strategic Communications to lead efforts to protect and promote the reputation of NSW Health Pathology as a vital statewide partner helping create better health and justice systems. This senior role will lead the development and delivery of high impact communication and stakeholder engagement plans aligned to strategic goals, including managing the organisation's government relations, media and social media activities, and issues management functions.

  1. Relevant tertiary qualifications in the communications field and proven, Strategic Communications experience at a management level
  2. Demonstrated ability to lead and manage effective teams and multiple Strategic Communications demands simultaneously, while also ensuring quality outputs with strong attention to detail and alignment to strategic goals
  3. Exceptional written, verbal and presentation skills, including the ability to translate complex information into simple messages and effectively communicate across a range of formats and evolving channels
  4. Highly advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with a proven track record of developing creative yet practical solutions to challenges
  5. Exceptional interpersonal, negotiation, liaison and coaching skills and proven experience working collaboratively with others to achieve strategic goals, motivate and develop staff, and deliver exceptional outcomes
  6. Proactive, positive attitude and the ability to work effectively under pressure and as part of a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team
  7. Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with and build the confidence and trust of senior managers and external stakeholders to achieve organisational goals
  8. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office and an unencumbered Class C Driver's Licence

Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course of a COVID-19 vaccine which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). Additionally, Category A workers are required to receive a booster dose three months after completing the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations. New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate (IM011 immunisation medical exemption form) certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.

This position is a permanent position. To be eligible for permanent appointment to a position in NSW Health, you must have an Australian citizenship or permanent Australian residency. Please note: A person who is not an Australian citizen or a permanent resident is only eligible for temporary employment for a period not longer than the duration of their current visa.
