Your Opportunity

As an Associate Lecturer in TAFE Queensland, you will contribute to teaching and related research and evaluation within your discipline. You will be a member of a teaching team within the discipline.

You are expected to contribute to the teaching effort of the organisation and to carry out activities to develop scholarly, research and professional activities relevant to the profession or discipline.

You will also engage with industry ensuring support for the promotion of TAFE Queensland’s applied learning philosophy. 

This position reports to the relevant Director of Faculty

This is a Tempoorary Full Time opportunity, to June 2025 unless otherwise determined.

The position will be based at our Southport and Southbank campuses, however you may be required to perform work at other TAFE Queensland campuses.  

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform assigned teaching duties with students, on and off campus, with a standard of planning, preparation, presentation and assessment as necessary for students to achieve unit and course learning outcomes.
  • Undertake scholarly activity relevant to the discipline and to learning and teaching.
  • Ensure compliance with TAFE Queensland and partner University systems and processes to document, evidence and report scholarly activity within expected timeframes.
  • Make an academic and professional contribution to the teaching program and service delivery of the discipline.
  • Initiate formal or informal interactions with students and staff across the Campus and with other Campuses, other tertiary institutions, industrial and commercial organisations, professional groups and community/individual organisations. Formal interactions are those which are commercial in nature and must be sanctioned by the relevant Dean/Head as appropriate.
  • Work with support and direction from senior staff and managers and with an increasing degree of autonomy as skills and experience is developed.
  • Prepare and deliver lectures, tutorials, workshops, field excursions, and a variety of educational delivery modes.
  • Assist in the development of innovative curriculum and teaching pedagogies that utilise current and emerging industry based technologies for use in the classroom and placement settings.
  • Teach into discipline units as required.
  • Undertake marking and assessment primarily connected with units which are being delivered.
  • Undertake administrative activities related to the program of teaching.
  • Actively contribute to cross disciplinary activities related to teaching, service delivery and placements.
  • Effectively participate as a member of the discipline and broader discipline faculty teaching teams.
  • Attend and participate in organisational unit meetings and/or hold membership of a limited number of committees.
  • Attend activities which support student recruitment.
  • Teach into Vocational Education and Training courses, where qualification and skills requirements are met.
  • Contribute to the success of transformation and cultural change through promoting and modelling the established values of Safety First, Working Together, Focussing on Our Customer, Showing Initiative and Taking Responsibility. 

How you will be assessed

The ideal applicant will be someone who has the following key capabilities:

  1. Demonstrated ability to contribute to the development of innovative learning and teaching within an applied learning environment and encouraging students to apply that learning in industry settings.
  2. Demonstrated ability to provide high quality course delivery within an applied learning environment, in accordance with Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) standards, with a demonstrated commitment to providing outstanding client service.
  3. Demonstrated record of achievement as a practitioner with a reputation for skills, knowledge and expertise.
  4. Superior written and oral communication, influencing and listening skills.
  5. Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to build and sustain productive internal and external stakeholder relationships with people from a diverse range of backgrounds.

Mandatory Qualifications/Requirements

  • Possession of a qualification at least one level higher than is awarded for the course of study, or equivalent relevant academic or professional or practice-based experience and expertise; and/or
  • Equivalent relevant academic or professional or practice-based experience and expertise, except for staff supervising doctoral degrees having a doctoral degree or equivalent research experience; and
  • Knowledge of contemporary developments in a discipline or field, which is informed by continuing scholarship or research or advances in practice; and
  • Skills in contemporary teaching, learning and assessment principles relevant to a discipline, the role, and modes of delivery and the needs of particular student cohorts.
