Your new role
As the Associate Legal Counsel, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the Chief Operating Officer & Corporate Secretary by delivering comprehensive internal legal services that address a broad spectrum of the department's needs. You'll be instrumental in:
Assisting in the drafting and provision of advice on legal risks, including statutory interpretation, administrative decisions, and matters related to Privacy & Data Protection, Contracts, Intellectual Property, and Property Law.
Supporting procurement processes by drafting contracts and providing advice on procurement requirements.
Reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements, including IT contracts and licences.
Handling Freedom of Information requests and managing data access in compliance with legal frameworks.
Contributing to the development and delivery of legal training within the department.
Engaging in various duties as needed, fostering an environment of legal excellence and compliance.
What you'll need to succeed
Admission as an Australian Legal Practitioner.
At least 2 years of post-admission experience, ideally with minimal supervision in a government or commercial legal practice or as part of an in-house legal team.
Possession of a current Victorian practising certificate.
Demonstrated expertise in procurement, commercial law, statutory interpretation, contract law, intellectual property, and information technology.
A proven track record of ethical professional conduct and the ability to adapt in a dynamic environment.
Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and research skills coupled with robust business writing abilities.
Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills.
A deep understanding of public sector management and the capacity to excel within it.
