Senior Associate or Special Counsel to join our General Insurance practice in Canberra.This opportunity suits someone at a senior level who is looking for a role where they can take on-the-ground ownership of a practice in Canberra, alongside a highly regarded Partner and
Special Counsel who are based in Sydney. A short-to-medium track to partnership will be considered for the right candidate.This role will focus primarily on the defence of personal injury claims across public and product liability. You will be responsible for and have carriage of your own files, with appropriate supervision and support.
Key responsibilitiesYou will be involved in a variety of matters including:
- reviewing documents and preparing evidence;
- drafting correspondence to the Court and third parties;
- conference with witnesses and preparing witness statements;
- supervising and mentoring junior lawyers;
- preparing briefs for counsel;
- drafting Court documents and attendance at Court;
- drafting client advices; and
- drafting letters of instruction to experts.
Skills and experienceWe are keen to hear from candidates with the following skills and experience:
- a minimum of five years of post admission experience in insurance litigation;
- ideally you will have experience with defendant personal injury claims, specifically within General Liability (however we are also open to candidates with a plaintiff background);
- clear, concise legal writing skills with strong attention to detail;
- the ability to supervise and mentor junior lawyers; and
- a genuine interest in leading and contributing to the growth and success of our Canberra General Liability practice.
