Associate or Principal Data Scientist/Analyst

Melbourne – Full Time 

Our team is growing, and we are looking for an Associate or Principal Data Scientist/Analyst who will help lead the identification and pursuit of opportunities as well as delivery of high-quality and innovative digital inputs to a diverse range of environmental projects.  The role will require identifying market opportunities, business development, cultivating client relationships and maximising digital offerings with our existing environment and water clients.  Working with a broader environment and water team, you will also lead delivery of diverse digital projects across remote sensing, GIS, App development, data science and analytics and machine learning. 

Essential Criteria:

• Minimum of 10-15 years of relevant technical experience in data science and digital solutions, including the delivery of high quality and technical inputs to projects. 
• Strong understanding of market opportunities and demonstrated ability in business development. 
• Ability to grasp new concepts quickly, be adaptable and flexible, and contribute individually and within a team environment.
• Project Management experience including the ability to track and report project progress on a consistent basis to various stakeholders, considering strategy, scope, and progress.
• Degree qualified in data science or related field.
• Experience of working within large, complex, cross-functional projects.
• Passion for working across disciplines and developing methodologies to solve problems.
• Full legal working rights within Australia.
• Excellent communication skills including the ability to engage with a broad range of other technical disciplines and successfully influence change.

Technical Criteria: 

• Extensive coding experience in R, R Markdown (knowledge of other languages, such as Javascript, Python, HTML, etc, desirable).
• Experience with R shiny (or if limited experience, sufficient experience in another web development language, such as Javascript).
• Demonstrated experience with analytical tools required – data extraction, data exploration, statistical analysis, and data visualisation.
• Demonstrated experience sourcing, processing and analysing remote sensing data (highly desirable).
• Proficient experience with versioning tools (GitHub preferred).
• Experience working with REST APIs.
• Spatial/GIS skills would be very useful for the role.
• Other software: Advanced Excel, Power BI/Qlik/, SQL.
• Previous experience working with an integrated approach alongside environmental disciplines (e.g., contaminated land, groundwater, ecology, environmental risk assessment, remediation, environmental approvals etc).
