The Role
The role will initially require some induction and training in our Mount Barker branch, before subsequent transition to the new branch located within 15 minutes of the Adelaide CBD. Providing occassional support on site at the Finch Powerhouse at Woodside will also be required.
As an Automotive Electrician and/or ‘Old School’ Mechanic with Finch, you will play a pivotal role during restorations, modifications, and conversions of antique to classic era of cars, trucks, and motorcycles.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Assess electrical and/or mechanical restoration requirements of vehicles to complete to the required level.
- Dismantle and remove electrical, electronic, and/or mechanical assemblies and components.
- Convert and modify vehicles for special requirements.
- Dismantle, check and inspect electrical, electronic, and/or mechanical assemblies and components for wear and damage.
- Repair, create, and install wiring looms.
- Repair and recondition components.
- Diagnose reasons for equipment failure.
- Assemble components and assemblies after repair and reconditioning.
- Install electrical, electronic, and/or mechanical assemblies and components in vehicles.
- Carry out vehicle repairs and/or maintenance and diagnosis of problems.
- Perform maintenance, fault diagnosis, rectification, component installation and/orassembly of predominantly pre-1980s (pre-computer age) vehicles.
- Overhauls of drive-line units and components.
- Reverse engineering, machining, and manufacture of componentry.
- Diagnostic and critical road testing, tuning and refining of finished work.
- Road testing with customers to help fault diagnosis.
- Travel to various sites and undertake inspections, and perform in-situ repairs.
- Prepare technical reports.
About You
Your skills and attributes include:
- Being an Automotive Electrician or ‘Old School’ Mechanic with a demonstrable portfolio of significant projects or experience.
- Having at least five years of experience.
- Holding an Certificate III in Automotive Electrical Technology, or Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology, or Certificate III in Automotive Mechanical Technology, and/or relevant proven experience.
- Experience restoring and refinishing classic and/or vintage cars, trucks and/or motorcycles of 30-120 years of age (desirable).
- Able to visualise the end-product, have a great eye for detail, and take great pride in your work.
- Commitment to high-quality craftsmanship and attention to detail, with a passion for preserving automotive history while embracing future technologies.
- Being an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident, a New Zealand citizen, or hold a valid visa with permission to work in Australia.
- Other automotive skillsets would be highly regarded.
