Job description

We’re seeking to fill an Adviser role in our Behavioural Economics and Education Team. Offers will be based on candidate performance and operational requirements. A merit list may also be formed through this recruitment process which may be used to fill upcoming vacancies that arise over the next 18 months.

About the OFWO

The Office of the Fair Work Ombudsman (OFWO) is an independent statutory office established by the Fair Work Act. Our functions outline the responsibilities we have as set by the Fair Work Act and other legislation to achieve our purpose:

  • provide education, assistance, advice and guidance to employers, employees, outworkers, outworker entities and organisations
  • promote and monitor compliance with workplace laws
  • inquire into and investigate breaches of the Fair Work Act
  • take appropriate enforcement action
  • perform our statutory functions efficiently, effectively, economically and ethically.

Eligibility

  • To be eligible for employment with the OFWO you must be an Australian citizen.
  • The successful candidate must hold a current Australian Government Security Clearance (AGSVA) or be willing to undergo and obtain a Baseline security clearance.

A range of other conditions may be required depending on the role you are applying for.

About the Team

The Behavioural Economics and Education Team:

  • designs and delivers tailored education resources and initiatives to educate the community about their workplace rights and obligations
  • monitors, maintains, and enhances a diverse and large suite of education tools and resources to ensure they remain market leading, credible, accurate and fit-for-purpose. This includes fact sheets, guides, a smartphone app, interactive online tools, online courses, education videos, and templates
  • conducts research activities to understand the education needs of the workplace community and behavioural barriers to compliance
  • applies Behavioural Economics and human centred design approaches and principles to understand and influence behaviour in Australian workplaces
  • evaluates the impact of our resources and initiatives to measure success and identify opportunities for improvement and innovation.

Typical Duties

The duties of this role include, however, are not limited to:

  • contributing to the drafting, design, delivery and maintenance of a variety of new and existing education tools and resources, with a particular focus on pdf fact sheets and guides, online learning courses, template letters and forms and videos.
  • undertaking reviews of existing resources in response to legislative and other changes to identify content impacts and writing plain language updates to ensure existing resources remain accurate and fit-for-purpose
  • editing and proofreading new and existing content including Word and PDF accessibility checks prior to publication
  • actively contributing to team administration tasks, including team mailbox activities and record-keeping
  • undertaking user acceptance testing on updates to our digital resources, including online learning courses and checklists and our smartphone app
  • assisting in user research activities and applying behavioural insights and human centred design approaches to deliver education initiatives, resources and customer communications for priority customer segments that have maximum impact and credibility
  • assisting to prepare written documents such as briefs, project plans, research reports and procurement documents.

Selection Criteria

  • Experience in creating and maintaining high quality digital educational resources or education materials.
  • Well-developed written skills including an ability to tailor writing to suit different audiences, mediums and purposes while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities whilst delivering high quality work across a range of projects and tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team, and with a range of stakeholders.

Desirable but not mandatory

  • design skills including experience with Articulate 360 and Adobe Creative Cloud suite (particularly InDesign and Photoshop)
  • workplace relations knowledge, including experience providing advice on topics covered by the Fair Work Act
  • experience designing public facing education resources for a regulated community
  • knowledge or experience in behavioural insights, user centred design, instructional design, user research and/or digital product and content writing and development.
