As our Biosecurity Officer, you will:
- Assist the team achieve efficient and effective delivery of operational goals working under direct guidance and in accordance with relevant standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions.
- As defined in the relevant operational plan, undertake tasks contributing to the protection of the Queensland biosecurity system by assisting stakeholders to manage biosecurity risks associated with diseases, pests and invasive species.
- Specific tasks supporting the above may include:
o undertaking routine data/information gathering, recording and collation
o gathering evidence to assist investigations of potential legislative breaches and chemical residue impacts (e.g. field observations, sample collection, witness statements/interviews)
- Assist external stakeholders to achieve legislative compliance by responding to basic/general enquires and providing fundamental technical information. This includes ensuring that queries are escalated to a more experienced / knowledgeable colleague when required.
- Under guidance, carry out risk-based decision making within day to day activities, including associated documentation/record keeping.
- Support effective teamwork by contributing positively to group tasks and, where relevant, providing guidance to new/inexperienced colleagues.
- This position exhibits physical requirements, notably traverse challenging terrain including slopes, steep gradients, rocky, uneven ground in a rainforest environment.
- The position may require overnight travel within Queensland or to other Australian States.
- Out of hours and weekend work may be required
- The successful applicant must hold a Diploma in a related field from a recognised tertiary institution. *For international qualifications, the applicant will need their qualification assessed, to determine comparability with the Australian Qualifications Framework. The Department of Employment, Small Business and Training can assist with these assessments for Queensland residents.
- A current open manual “C” Class Driver's Licence.
- Practical experience and skill, or the ability to quickly acquire skill, in using a smart mobile device, and a GPS device.
- First Aid Certificate.
- Agricultural Chemicals Distribution Control (ACDC) Licence.
- Certificate IV in Government (Statutory Compliance).
- Certificate IV in Compliance and Risk Management.
- An understanding of biosecurity response activities and the Queensland Disaster Management, and
- Arrangements and/or experience in applying your capabilities in a response environment will be highly regarded
