The Bellarine Catchment Network (BCN) is a network of over 39 community groups, land managers and government organisations collaboratively delivering environmental projects across the Bellarine and Geelong region. BCN is governed by an incorporated committee and employs a team of permanent contracted and casual staff.
The Bellarine Peninsula is 34,000 ha in area with 137 km of bay, estuary and ocean frontage. Only about 5% of it retains its original vegetation cover. BCN's Vision is for 'healthy, flourishing and diverse ecosystems cared for by an aware and engaged community.' About the role
This role will report directly to the Executive Officer and the Coastal and Biodiversity Program Leader and will assist the organisations on-ground works program with other duties as required.
Key duties:
- Support the implementation of biodiversity and on-ground works projects.
- Undertake appropriate weed control techniques as required including grubbing, chemical application and mechanical removal.
- Undertake pest animal control as required.
- Undertake revegetation when required including staking and guarding.
- Support the delivery of volunteer bush regeneration days including the Borough Coastcarers and the Friends of Murrk Ngubitj Yarram Yaluk, as required.
- Support the delivery of community, school and other environmental education activities, as required.
- Ensure projects are delivered as per project agreement and milestones.
- Ensure best practice standards and principles are adhered to.
- Undertake regular biodiversity monitoring, spatial mapping and reports for BCN programs.
About you
We are seeking candidates with the following experience:
Essential:
- Tertiary qualification in science, conservation, biodiversity, conservation land management, natural resource management or at least 1 year of experience in a similar role.
- A working knowledge of vegetation management including the use of Ecological Vegetation Classes (or interstate equivalents).
- Experience with pest plant identification and control including spraying, grubbing, cut and paint and other bush regeneration techniques.
- Motivated with well-developed organisational and time management skills.
- Experience working in a team environment and contributing to a healthy work culture.
- A current Australian Drivers Licence.
Desirable
- Understanding of GIS /GPS use and mapping.
- A current Working with Children Check, Level 2 First Aid and CPR.
- A current Australian Chemical Users Permit (ACUP) and/or Chainsaw Accreditation.
