The Derwent Estuary Program (DEP) is a not-for-profit scientific partnership between industry, state, and local government with the purpose of restoring and promoting the Derwent Estuary in Hobart. We have been monitoring water quality and improving the environmental condition of the Estuary since 1999. The Biodiversity Officer role is an ongoing position. The successful applicant will be supported with professional development opportunities and be part of a small, enthusiastic and professional team. The DEP is a family friendly, inclusive workplace. .
About you
We are looking for someone who enjoys working with multiple stakeholders, has experience and a passion for managing habitat and species projects. Sharing our science is an important part of the DEP so an ability to communicate complex messages to a range of audiences will be another valuable attribute of the Biodiversity Officer.
Key tasks:
- Coordinate and manage a saltmarsh restoration project.
- Support DEP and DEP partners with habitat and species projects e.g. wetland assessments, weed surveys, little penguin habitat management.
- Manage/maintain biodiversity data.
- Convene stakeholder meetings and deliver agreed actions.
- Prepare scientific and technical reports.
- Seek funding for agreed habitat and species initiatives in the DEP Business Plan.
- Review development applications relevant to the Derwent Estuary and provide feedback to planners.
- Other duties, including boat based field work, as required.
