Our 2024-29 Biodiversity Plan is aimed at maintaining and replenishing the unique eco-systems that make up significant portions of the City of Marion Landscape.
There is now a rare opportunity to secure a permanent full-time position working in our Biodiversity team where you can apply your prior practical fieldwork experience, biodiversity, conservation and land management knowledge, and customer service skills to make a real difference.
Reporting to our Biodiversity Coordinator, and working with our volunteer friends, you will largely be out in the field with other time spent working in-house with a capable range of other City of Marion staff.
In this position you will contribute to key operational biodiversity deliverables across major sites which includes but is not limited to the following.
- Overseeing contractor works for the delivery of a range of natural area restoration and biodiversity projects including but not limited to weed control, restoration works, revegetation and monitoring.
- Delivering a weed management program by using modern mapping technology.
- Providing technical advice to key stakeholders around biodiversity and conservation land management.
- Supporting the Open Space Volunteer Coordinator in providing technical advice and on-ground support for our Environmental Volunteers.
- Supporting the Biodiversity Coordinator to achieve Council’s revegetation targets across a range of different sites including remnant native vegetation and urban biodiversity reserves.
- Developing and maintaining a native seed bank for use in Council projects, including collecting local provenance native seed from City of Marion biodiversity reserves.
- Providing quality customer service outcomes to internal and external stakeholders and customers ensuring their concerns are heard and where reasonable addressed in line with legislative standards, relevant guidelines, and policies.
- Liaising with and maintaining strong relationships and influence services with strategic partners and external organisations.
While this role will benefit from your technical expertise and knowledge, an appreciation and prior fieldwork experience related to biodiversity is sought. Like many jobs at the City of Marion, this position will have people contact. It will be necessary to apply your strong interpersonal and customer skills with the public, our volunteers, and our in-house staff.
The City of Marion are also adopters of environmental technology, and solid computer literacy will be essential for monitoring, mapping, and reporting purposes.
Please note, a valid Driver’s licence and a willingness to drive is required. (You will have access to one of our fleet vehicles.) There may also be occasional out of hours work.
