You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following key capabilities, knowledge and experience. Within the context of the responsibilities described under ‘your key responsibilities', the ideal applicant will be someone who can demonstrate the following:
- Demonstrated knowledge of UNIX like operating systems and command line operated software.
- Demonstrated proficiency in programming languages (Python, Java etc).
- Demonstrated expertise with bioinformatic analysis and pipelines. Familiarity with metagenomic data sets would be viewed favourably.
- Experience with high performance computing including cloud computing and database management.
- Demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of autonomy in a multidisciplinary team including remote team members, while prioritising workload and meeting deadlines.
- Experience or knowledge in the bioinformatic analysis and LIMS related next generation sequencing workflow of bacterial and/or viral genomes is desirable.
- The successful applicant must hold at a Bachelor in Computer Science, Science, Bioinformatics or relevant fields.
- The possession of a postgraduate qualification majoring in Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics and/or Genomics while not mandatory would be well regarded.
- Australian Federal Police security clearance is a mandatory requirement
- In some circumstances and following consultation, Queensland Health staff may be required to participate in on-call or weekend roster arrangements.
- Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and if applicable registration or membership with the appropriate registration authority or association. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to commencement of duties.
- It may be a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment: Hepatitis A & B, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis, Rubella and Varicella.
- Additional vaccinations including Japanese Encephalitis and Rabies may also be required for this position.
