We have over 163 parks, 80 hectares of sporting ovals, 384 hectares of open recreation space and 78 playgrounds which includes Maitland Regional Sportsground which is an icon for the city and has a rich history in our community spanning over 80 years, being the training ground for the Newcastle Jets. The Opportunity As Council’s Biosecurity & Environmental Operations Advisor you will be responsible for the supervision and management of staff and resources within the Weed Management Team, as well as working closely with the recreation and civil sections, to provide environmental risk advice for maintenance and project work. This role is responsible for processing and actioning community enquiries relating to weed management, inspection of private and public land for the presence of priority weeds, and championing Council’s community weeds education program through participation in a range of initiatives such as field days, committees and forums. About YouSuccessful candidates for this role must possess a degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or an equivalent qualification. You will also have a thorough understanding of the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016, significant experience in engaging with external authorities, expertise in grant applications and reporting, and proficiency in identifying native and pest plant species. The role also entails conducting weed risk assessments and implementing weed control measures. The successful candidate should demonstrate contemporary leadership skills, including the ability to lead, coach, and support staff effectively. Financial acumen is desirable, with the capacity to prepare and manage budgets to meet budget requirements. Additionally, candidates are required to hold a current Chemical use AQF4 certification and possess a Class C Driver's license. BenefitsThis is a permanent full-time position, working 38 hours per week with a base salary range between $94,799 - $105,227 per year (inclusive of current overtime agreement) based on demonstrated experience 11% super. Work hours are currently 6:30am to 3:45pm, including a guaranteed 30-minute overtime agreement per day (reviewed annually). This position is allocated a commuter use vehicle for to and from work use.
