Senior Advisor, Injury Management - Operations

Location: Parramatta CBD (Flexible working arrangements)

Employment type: Ongoing, full-time position (1 vacancy)

Salary: $120,859 to $133,183 plus employers' contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading

Your role

The Senior Advisor, Injury Management - Operations works within the high performing Injury Management Operations Team in People Branch. The Senior Advisor, Injury Management - Operations role plays an integral part in the timely and efficient operation of the Injury Management function, supporting the Injury Management Officers and Team Leaders to deliver strategies for complex claims and by providing direction and support to the Injury Management Team.

This role manages a team of Team Leaders and Injury Management Officers and reports to the Manager, Injury Management - Operations providing support for programs and initiatives and leading process improvements which impact the whole of DCJ.

What you'll do

As part of the Injury Management Operations Team, you will work with internal stakeholders such as the Workers Compensation Performance, Safety and Wellbeing team to ensure consistency and efficiency in meeting our strategic reviews, including other Injury Management projects and initiatives, as required.

Also, maintaining relationships with key business partners and managers within the business to develop strategies to intervene on complex claims. Complex claims includes where there are a range of human resource issues overlapping, including but not limited to, performance issues, conduct, workplace issues and/or a risk of a high severity injury.

Relationship management with external stakeholders is another key element of the role to ensure current practises align with the values and agreed expectations of DCJ.

This role will coach and work with injury managers and line managers to implement interventions on annual performance adjustment impacting workers compensation claim. There is an emphasis on interventions that will support recover at work options within the first 3-6 months of injury. The intent is to develop strategies to reduce risk and intervene early to reduce the common injury types across DCJ, including psychological claims. This role requires an innovative approach to generate evidence-based designs that support a human centred Injury Management operating model.

You'll contribute to collating data and evidence, completing data analysis, stakeholder engagement coordination, preparing reports and briefs, accurate record keeping, and being responsible for project management systems such as EDRMS and Safety Suite to ensure service delivery standards and meet return to work outcomes.

What we're looking for

Essential requirements of the role:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a therapeutic or nursing area, or equivalent Injury Management experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current NSW workers compensation legislation.
  • Previous experience as an Allied Health Professional or Nurse or Return-to-work Coordinator and case management experience would be beneficial.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of current workers compensation legislation and policy

In addition to meeting the essential requirements, our ideal candidate for this role will demonstrate:

  • Ability to manage consultations and negotiations with diverse stakeholders, within agreed timelines, given their varying expectations, viewpoints, and interests.
  • Their ability to assist and support injury managers and their teams with complex cases, including participating in case reviews and devising innovative approaches.
  • For complex claims, attending claims reviews and case conferences with the injury manager and insurer claims manager.
  • Deals with a diverse range of complex matters and highly conceptual issues, to recommend practical solutions, often within limited time frames.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to support, encourage and mentor team members and colleagues to achieve team goals. Ideally, you'll be solution focused, with the ability to develop strong links with the business and stakeholders.
  • Conducting internal reviews with Injury Management teams to assist in flagging high risk claims and supporting a strategic action plan for individual cases.
  • Have an operating knowledge of the Workers Compensation legal framework
