BLASTER/PAINTER
Fosterville Gold Mine invites suitably qualified and experienced individuals to apply for the position of Blaster/Painter. The primary purpose of this position is to carry out surface preparation and painting activities safely and efficiently across all Processing Department infrastructure in accordance with relevant FGM policies, procedures, and Australian Standards, predominantly parts of AS/NZS 2312, AS/NZS 1627, AS/NZS 3750 and AS 3894.
Reporting to the Surface Maintenance Mechanical Supervisor, your duties will include:
Blast Cleaning and Surface Preparation
- Carry out dry abrasive blasting in all areas of the plant.
- Carry out alternative methods of surface preparation where dry blasting is not suitable.
- Maintain and safely use abrasive blasting equipment and PPE.
- Housekeeping of blast media (garnet) and recycle as required.
- Complete pre-start checks on blasting equipment including air compressors
Painting
- Selection of correct paints for surfaces to be coated.
- Carry out prime coat, topcoat and testing to meet quality inspection standards.
- Maintain and safely use spray painting equipment and PPE.
- Housekeeping of painting equipment and area at the completion of each shift.
- Complete pre-start checks on painting equipment.
General
- Always provide a high quality of work.
- Assist tradespeople as required and directed.
- Auditing of blasting and painting consumables for stocks to be replenished.
The successful candidate should possess the following:
- Certificate 3 in Surface Preparation and Coating Application (MSM30216) or equivalent.
- A minimum 2 years’ experience as a qualified Blaster/Painter
- Previous experience within the mining industry (desirable).
- Ability to interpret technical specifications and drawings.
- Proficient in surface preparation techniques and coating applications.
- Knowledgeable about different types of paints, coatings, and application methods.
- Knowledgeable about different types of cleaning chemicals, including safe use, handling, and disposal of.
- Manual drivers’ licence.
- Confined Space Entry, Working Safely at Heights, WorkSafe High Risk Licences – EWP +11m, Dogging, Light Forklift ticket (desirable)
The roster for this residential position will be 5/2 4/3 10 hours per day
A competitive rate will be offered in line with the relevant classification contained in the Fosterville Enterprise Agreement 2021.
