About the Opportunity
The Boat Manager is responsible for ensuring that the production & subcontract tasks are scheduled and performed efficiently through monitored earned value management principles in accordance with both contractual and company requirements in order to achieve required business performance. Reporting to the Submarine Manager and allocated to a Project team, the Boat Manager leads the Boat Team and is responsible for ensuring the safety of all personnel, maintenance tasks and the Boat in a compliant and efficient manner. The Boat Manager is the primary point of contact to the Operations department for the allocation of labour resources through the normal ASC resource allocation processes. The Boat Manager supports the allocated Project Manager for the management, coordination and execution of work packages, personnel, schedule, quality, cost and risk throughout the submarine lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- The Boat Manager works closely with the allocated Project Manager to deliver the Project on behalf of ASC and is accountable for ensuring that all tasks are accurately scheduled and are executed safety and efficiently. Ownership of the overall boat schedule including critical paths, involved with the development of the network logic and recovery plans with the project team.
- Ensure all tasks are planned and integrated into the project schedule by the Boat Team Leads in an accurate and efficient manner and all tasks have been de-conflicted.
- Provides leadership and governance to all work planned to be conducted and is responsible to ensure all work is compatible and deconflicted prior to commencing work.
- Ensure an accurate and safe SPOD list is presented to the Submarine Safety Council for review and approval for all work planned to be performed on board the submarine.
- Chair the weekly commitment planning meeting for their submarine during activity.
- Manage the operations inputs.
- Accountable for the planning and execution in accordance with a detailed pre-developed schedule.
- Accountable for the safe execution of required Set-To-Work activities.
About you
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Educational qualifications in Engineering, Management or equivalent experience.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Experience in managing/supervising a large multi skilled workforce in a shipbuilding, submarine or heavy engineering environment.
- Knowledge of submarine systems, equipment and their inter-relationships.
- Ability to develop and execute scheduled work.
- An understanding of Collins maintenance programs and techniques.
REQUIRED BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
- As a key member of the project team the Boat Manager is required to work across the various functional departments, build relationships and influence outcomes to support the delivery of the project.
Eligibility
This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.
