ABOUT US 

Commodore Hotel joined the Epochal Hotels family in 2023. Undoubtedly one of Sydney’s greatest pubs, the Commodore Hotel has stood proudly as a community landmark for over 150 years. It has been the backdrop to so many special moments in history and is proudly entrenched in the fabric of North Sydney.  The main hotel is now closed for major renovations, but the exciting next chapter for the Commodore Hotel is nearly here, reopening later this year to truly be Like No Other.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

We are looking for an experienced Bottle Shop Manager to join the Commodore team and manage our successful Bottle Shop, which remains operational throughout our renovation. 

You will be responsible for managing all aspects of the Bottle Shop operations, including inventory control, people management, Guest service, and sales. This role will also be responsible for beverage purchasing for the Hotel when we relaunch. The ideal candidate will possess excellent leadership skills, a deep knowledge of beverage products, and a strong commitment to guest experience. This role is a full-time, permanent role which requires the ability to work evenings and weekends. 

Key Responsibilities:

Guest Service:

  • Provide exceptional service by assisting Guests with product selection and offering expert recommendations.
  • Resolve Guest complaints and issues in a professional and timely manner.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with regular Guests to encourage repeat business.

Operational Management:

  • Oversee daily operations of the Bottle Shop, ensuring a clean, organized, and well-stocked environment.
  • Implement and maintain operational policies and procedures to enhance efficiency and customer satisfaction.
  • Manage the opening and closing of the shop, including cash handling and security procedures.

Inventory Management:

  • Maintain optimal inventory levels by monitoring stock and placing orders as needed.
  • Manage regular stocktakes and stock rotation to minimize waste and ensure product freshness.
  • Handle supplier negotiations and coordinate deliveries to ensure timely restocking of popular items across the venue.

People Management: 

  • Recruit, train, and supervise a team of staff, ensuring they provide excellent customer service and adhere to company policies.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide ongoing training and development opportunities.
  • Create and manage staff rosters

Sales and Promotions

  • Work with the team to implement effective sales and promotions strategies to achieve sales targets and maximize profitability.
  • Plan and execute promotional events, product launches, and special offers.
  • Monitor market trends and customer preferences to identify new sales opportunities and stock high-demand products.

Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations, including licensing requirements and Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) guidelines.
  • Maintain a safe working environment by enforcing health and safety policies and conducting regular risk assessments.

Financial Management:

  • Prepare and manage the Bottle Shop budget, monitor expenses, and implement cost-saving measures.
  • Generate sales reports and analyze financial performance to identify areas for improvement.
  • Handle cash flow, banking, and financial record-keeping in accordance with company policies.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent. A relevant qualification in retail management or hospitality is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in retail management, preferably in a Bottle Shop or liquor store, with experience in leading a team
  • Proven track record of achieving sales targets and managing inventory effectively.
  • Strong knowledge of wines, spirits, and beers, including the ability to make product recommendations.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Proficiency in using point-of-sale (POS) systems and inventory management software.
  • Exceptional communication and customer service skills.
  • Valid Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certification.
