Established in 1913, bowls have been played at East Maitland for more than 110 years. today, our vibrant, modern 'East Maitland Bowling Club" is home to the “Griffins”. Hosting the largest Bowling membership in the Hunter/ Newcastle region and fielding sides in all pennant competitions including “Platinum” in 2024. Bowls is played seven days a week with our facilities offering members and visitors 3 high quality bowling greens, 2 grass and a covered synthetic, restaurants, bars, function rooms and a viewing room and terrace overlooking the greens. We are looking forward to a Bowls Development Officer joining us with the same passion that we have for the growth of the sport, our people and our facilities.
The Bowls Development Officer is responsible for driving programs within the Club to improve performance and participation at all levels of competition through well managed recruitment and coaching. You will work closely with the Bowls Coordinator to manage all areas of bowls competitions and administration of the sport. You will be someone who can develop and maintain relationships across the Bowling community to ensure that our club remains connected and respected across the industry.
You will be expected to have an extensive playing record and the ability to form a number of competitive and successful Bowls teams. To compliment your existing experience you will be provided the training, tools and resources required to fulfill this position. This role will be challenging but rewarding for the right applicant.
GENERAL DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop. manage and review programs that address player recruitment, membership increase and player development.
- Assist in the promotion of social bowls, barefoot bowls, tournaments and the sport in general.
- Organise day to day bowls calendar in conjunction with relevant committees.
- Develop and encourage junior, school and broader community participation in bowls.
- Liase with bowls committees.
- Develop, manage and mentor coaches, match officials and volunteers.
- Formulate and oversee bowls coaching programs.
- actively seek sponsorship.
- Represent the Club by developing relationships with district, zones associations, government, schools and community groups.
- Promote the Club positively which may include representation in pennants, tournaments, championships, representation at district, zone or state level.
- The promotion of a strong fellowship among bowling and non-bowling members.
- Support effective communication between management, staff, members and guests.
- Available when required to attend committee and staff meetings.
- Maintain budgetary requirements as determined by Management.
- Uphold work practices that comply with Workplace, Health and Safety.
- Comply with all reasonable requests made by Club Management and the Bowls Coordinator.
Essential Criteria:
- Previous experience in a Bowls Development or Coordinator role.
- High level of communication skills.
- Proficient with Outlook, Excel, Word and Bowls Australia BowlsLink.
- Well networked in the wider Bowls community.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Possess a positive, friendly and outgoing disposition.
- Excellent time management.
Desirable:
- Current Coaching and Umpire Certificates
- Current First Aid Certificate.
- Representative/ Grade 1 level playing experience.
- Working With Children Check.
- Qualifications in Sport or Event Management.
