About the Opportunity
We are currently seeking a suitably qualified Building Inspector Limited to provide specialist building surveying advice, and customer service support to the community and Council's building Services Team.
In this role, you will assist in undertaking statutory inspections, including dangerous building & structures, illegal building and structures, essential safety measures in the buildings and any other inspections in accordance with the building legislation, approved permits and Council policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist building surveying advice and support to the Building Services Team, specifically with statutory legislative requirements, including assessment of Council Report and Consent applications.
- Prepare site inspection reports and provide recommendations to the Municipal Building Surveyor (MBS) and/or Deputy Municipal Building Surveyor (DMBS) on a course of action.
- Provide advice and undertake onsite inspections for applications relating to public protection consent and road / footpath occupation permits.
- Accurately register service requests processed for the purposes of the investigation of alleged breaches of the Building Act and Regulations.
- Prepare notices of entry, correspondence and other documentation in relation to the Building Services unit inspections and investigations, and record these documents on Council's system.
About You
To be considered for this role, you will have the following:
- A relevant degree or diploma qualification in Building Surveying with little or no experience; or a less formal qualification with work skills and relevant experience.
- Previous relevant experience in a technical role within a Building Surveyors office or within Local Government.
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation and the ability to comprehend and interpret Acts & Regulations, including local laws.
- Strong administration skills to develop and implement effective and efficient systems.
- Experience lodging and assessing Council Reports & Consents under the relevant building legislation, in particular Building over easements, Land liable to flood, Designated land or works and Protection of the public.
