Business Administration Trainee – Customer Experience
Gladstone Regional Council is proud to help facilitate the upskilling of our region in a diverse range of roles and across a variety of Council locations. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an organisation that is committed to delivering outstanding service to our community.
Council has an opportunity to appoint a maximum-term full time Business Administration Trainee to contribute to Council’s success. This traineeship opportunity is for a 12 month period to undertake a Certificate III Business Administration and is based at the Gladstone Office. The employment contract will commence on Monday 20 January 2025.
About the opportunity
This position will rotate through our Local Laws, Biosecurity & Environmental Health and Development Services teams within our Customer Experience Business Unit.
Local Laws
The Local Laws team works closely with residents to ensure compliance relating to community safety, abandoned vehicles, regulated parking, overgrown/unsightly private properties, overstay & illegal camping, littering and illegal dumping, and animal management including Annual Animal Registrations. Our department provides the community with customer-focused solutions for compliance and enforcement issues that occur within our region.
The trainee will be working closely with a Local Law Officer to conduct our Annual Animal Inspection Program where you will be in control of all administrative work for this program. You will be trained in Council’s information programs, and will be required to generate meeting requests, take meeting minutes, and distribute those minutes to the team. You will be Local Laws 2nd contact for Customer Solutions where you will be advised of incoming Customer Service Requests where you will advise the Senior Local Law Officer, or you may be required to allocate these jobs to our Officers.
Biosecurity & Environmental Health
The Biosecurity and Environmental Health team is a diverse team serving the wider community. Our purpose is to protect the community, businesses, native flora and fauna, the land and the economy through education, awareness, compliance and enforcement of relevant state and local laws within the Gladstone Region. The teams are very different and diverse – no day is the same and although a lot of tasks we do are the same it is for different customers and situations making the days interesting. The trainee is exposed to all areas within our team to understand what we do and why we do it.
The trainee will support the teams with a variety of administrative tasks including following procedures for managing weekly/monthly reports, updating, and maintaining databases, responding to customer requests, assist with bulk mail outs of licenses and filing. Additionally, the trainee will have the opportunity to get out and about to assist the Environmental Health team with the delivery of the immunisation program by attending clinics for schools, staff, and the community.
Development Services
Development Services is the department of building, plumbing, and planning and we deal with everything from someone building a garden shed in their backyard all the way up to multimillion-dollar estate developments. Our department is a dynamic environment, where we balance customer interactions, applications, and compliance action.
A Development Services Trainee can expect an ever-changing list of responsibilities as work pops up, but can expect to be doing data entry, booking inspections over the phone and email, generating monthly statistics, emailing application documents to customers, quality assurance, and collating documents for building searches regularly.
At the end of your traineeship, you will have completed a Certificate III in Business Administration, acquiring skills, experience, and knowledge via on-the-job training in dynamic teams, providing you with practical skills to succeed in a wide range of business-related roles.
