Location Profile

Waverley Meadows Primary School is a community minded school in Wheelers Hill. We are in a period of exciting growth and change with significant improvements to our teaching pedagogy and curriculum programs, as well as facilities.

We have very expansive grounds and three upgraded learning spaces, library, Science/STEM room, multi-purpose room and art room. There is plenty of room for sport with dedicated spaces for basketball, netball, soccer and football as well as two playgrounds, nature play space and shaded seating areas. An expansive vegetable garden and chicken coop enable students to experience Agricultural Studies as a part of their science program and Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program.

The vision of Waverley Meadows Primary School is to develop our students to be critical and creative thinkers with a passion for learning. The school motto of `To Learn is to Grow' guides our daily practices and we embrace opportunities for growth. All members of the community act with kindness and respect. We are a school that is large in grounds and even bigger in heart, with a small student population. Enrolment growth is a big focus and as our improvement efforts and reputation begins to take hold in the area, we are seeing increased numbers at all year levels. Building stronger connections with local kindergartens and child-care centres aims to help us improve enrolments into prep.

Our core class curriculum is supported by specialist programs including The Arts (visual and performing), Physical Education, Science (STEM) and AUSLAN (LOTE).

Selection Criteria

SC1    Demonstrate knowledge and capacity to work in a small office team, including ability to multi-task across a broad range of topics.

SC2    Demonstrate knowledge and experience in respect to human resource and financial management records systems, including budget development.

SC3   Sound knowledge of financial management legal requirements and practices, including the capacity to produce reports and provide advice in respect to those reports.

SC4    Highly developed administrative and organisational skills, including the capacity to prioritise workflows.

SC5    Highly developed written and verbal communication skills enabling effective interaction with staff and members of the school community.

Role

The Business Manager role will undertake tasks that impact on the whole school. Range 3 is distinguished by the introduction of management responsibility and accountability for the delivery of professional support services. The role will require the ability to work in a small team to achieve specific objectives, including school administration, finance, human resources and facilities maintenance.

Direction on targets and goals is provided but the position will have some degree of latitude in determining how they are achieved. This latitude will generally be limited by standard procedures and school policy.  Deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management.

Ability to manage multiple tasks, be able to work independently and within a small team to achieve the expected outcomes is a key responsibility.  Staff issues to be resolved with minimal reference to senior management, although guidance will be required in more complex cases.  Senior management will be provided with timely reports and advice in matters relating to the school finance, human resources, school administration and facilities maintenance.

Attendance requirement for this position (Job share position 4 days per week (Tue-Fri) 8:30am ¿ 4:30pm).

Responsibilities

Deliver School Services

  • Manage and perform the delivery of all school operations, administrative and financial.
  • Manage and produce the design and production of school publications and documents.

Finance

  • Manage and develop the preparation of annual budgets and regular financial statements and contribute to the financial decision making of the school.
  • Prepare funding submissions for the leadership team and School Council.
  • Manage and perform all accounting processes of the school and ensure that all funds, including school investments, are effectively accounted for according to Treasury regulations.
  • Provide advice to staff on spending against budget in respect to faculties, programs and other school projects.
  • Attend School Council meetings and answer financial questions raised by members of School Council.
  • Administer government grants and other school income.
  • Manage and deliver fundraising activities.

General Administration

  • Manage and perform all administrative functions for school operations.
  • Perform a range of administrative support functions for the Principal and teaching staff.
  • Provide administrative support to external service providers as required.
  • Manage and perform the processing of student admissions, registrations, enrolments and transfers.
  • Provide required level of administrative support for school events, functions and projects.
  • Implement induction programs for new staff, volunteers and other workers to the school.
  • Participate in professional learning activities relevant to the position.
  • Participate in weekly leadership team meetings.

Human Resources

  • Research, plan and prepare development programs for support staff.
  • Manage recruitment procedures.
  • Provide authoritative advice to the leadership team on support structures and work practices.
  • Assist in the development of work practices that ensure appropriate occupational health and safety standards are maintained.
  • Manage procedures relating to employee relations issues.
  • Assist in the development of human resource planning.
  • Provide first aid support to students and staff.

Manage School Resources

  • Assist to manage the use and maintenance of school buildings and equipment.
  • Liaise and negotiate with service providers in respect to the cost and quality of services.
  • Supervise the delivery of contracted services.
  • Manage the development and collection of resource material at the school.

Support School Council

  • Draft financial Reports and monitor budget performance providing detailed explanations.
  • Draft reports and make recommendations on operational issues.
  • Evaluate and report on the operational efficiency of computer systems in production, making recommendations for improvement where appropriate.
  • Develop techniques and procedures that will affect work practices beyond the work place.
  • Manage a technical program with a broad scope across the school.
