WORKFORCE

The College staffing profile consists of approximately 120 staff members; including 5 Principal class, 11 Leading Teachers, 3 Learning Specialists, 57 teachers, 32 Education Support Staff and 2 Paraprofessionals.

The College has invested heavily in building the professional knowledge of our staff and working collaboratively in teams to support the needs of our students.

ENROLMENT

The College has an enrolment of over 700 students across Foundation to Year 12. The community comprises of diverse family backgrounds, with 48% of students speaking languages other than English at home and a high proportion of students coming from the Karen, Pacific Islander and Middle Eastern communities.

FACILITIES

Our College facilities and resources ensure that students are provided with an optimal learning environment and include a Performing Arts Centre, a fully equipped VET Hospitality centre, an Engineering workshop, Gymnasium, landscaped gardens, primary and secondary ovals, multiple netball and basketball courts, an undercover synthetic area for play and a beach volleyball area. Each classroom has TV technology and our students can access notebooks and iPads.

LOCATION

Laverton P-12 College resides within the western suburbs of Melbourne in the local area of Hobson's Bay.

SIZE AND STRUCTURE

The school is comprised of seven permanent buildings and two relocatable buildings, providing a range of specialised learning spaces, including a gymnasium, performing arts centre, instrumental music rooms, a state of the art food technology kitchen and cafe, practical science rooms, technology and engineering spaces, and a well-resourced College library.

Selection Criteria
  1. Comprehensive understanding of the core responsibilities involved in managing and leading key areas within the college, encompassing finance, facilities, human resources (including staffing), and strategic initiatives.
  2. Demonstrated authority in decision-making related to programs, budgets, and staff, ensuring alignment with school strategies and policies.
  3. Demonstrated strategies that you have employed to implement strategic school policies across various functional areas, ensuring seamless execution and monitoring progress towards desired outcomes.
  4. Illustrate the methods through which you have offered leadership, mentorship, and guidance to staff, utilising your expertise to improve the quality of educational services.
  5. Demonstrated ability to actively contribute, manage, and lead in shaping school policies and decision-making processes, emphasising strategic planning
Role

HOURS OF WORK WILL BE 48/52.  ADDITIONAL ADHOC HOURS WILL BE REQUIRED, THESE HOURS WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH THE PRINCIPAL

An education support class position at level 2 will have a primary responsibility for the management of significant areas or functions within the school to support the educational services being provided to students.  In exercising the responsibility an education support class position at level 2 will have the authority to make all significant decisions relating to the program, budget and staff relating to their area of designated responsibility within the framework of the school's strategic plan, policies and budget but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor.

Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee's position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.

An education support class position at level 2 will contribute to the overall management of the school through involvement in policy formulation and decision making.

Responsibilities

The Business Manager is a senior member of School leadership, accountable for multiple key areas or functions for the school, including the achievement of established school objectives. 

The responsibilities that are expected at this level are set out below:

Significant contribution to the overall management of the school through involvement in policy formulation and decision making

A primary responsibility for the management of areas or functions within the school(s), each with significant budget, staff responsibilities or strategic importance

The authority to make significant decisions relating to the program, budget and staff relating to their area of designated responsibility within the framework of the school's strategic plan, policies and budget

Responsible for implementation of strategic school policy across functional areas

Provides leadership and guidance based on advanced professional or technical expertise

Subject matter expert that conceptualises, initiates, implements, promotes, and evaluates complex and innovative technical programs

Routinely advises the school leadership team on policy issues and solutions within a functional area

Develops technical or professional standard.

Finance

  • Manage and direct the preparation of annual budgets and regular financial statements and contribute to the financial decision making of the school.
  • Prepare funding submissions for the leadership team and school council.
  • Direct the accounting processes of the school and ensure that all funds, including school investments, are effectively accounted for according to Treasury regulations.
  • Provide advice to staff on spending against budget in respect to faculties, programs and other school projects.
  • Administer government grants and other school income.
  • Manage fund raising activities.

General Administration

  • Ensure the provision of a range of administrative support functions for the Principal and teaching staff.
  • Provide administrative support to external service providers as required.
  • Manage the processing of student admissions, registrations, enrolments and transfers.
  • Provide required level of administrative support for school events, functions and projects.
  • Implement induction programs for new staff, volunteers and other workers to the school.

Human Resources

  • Research, plan and prepare development programs for support staff.
  • Manage recruitment procedures.
  • Provide authoritative advice to the leadership team on support structures and work practices.
  • Assist in the development of work practices that ensure appropriate occupational health and safety standards are maintained.
  • Manage procedures relating to employee relations issues.
  • Assist in the development of human resource planning.

Manage School Resources

  • Coordinate the use and maintenance of school buildings and equipment.
  • Liaise and negotiate with service providers in respect to the cost and quality of services.
  • Supervise the delivery of contracted services.
  • Manage the development and collection of resource material at the school.

Support School Council

  • Draft reports and make recommendations on operational issues.
  • Evaluate and report on the operational efficiency of computer systems in production, making recommendations for improvement where appropriate.
  • Develop techniques and procedures that will affect work practices beyond the work place.
  • Manage a technical program with a broad scope across the school.
