The key duties of the position include
The Role
The C-17A Interface Manager is a key position supporting the C-17A Globemaster III Heavy Lift Transport aircraft and training systems. The position forms part of a multidisciplinary team within Australia and the United States supporting the sustainment and operation of the C-17A Globemaster platform via Foreign Military Sales arrangements with the US Government and Direct Commercial arrangements with Australian Industry.
The C-17 Interface Manager leads a team in the provision of key sustainment activities for the C-17 platform; including oversight of Contractor performance and direct support to Air Mobility Group. The position is required to exercise considerable leadership across the C-17 enterprise and the Heavy Air Lift Systems Program Office (HALSPO) to support the delivery of the C-17 Product Schedule.
This position is responsible for developing and fostering productive relationships and will require strong stakeholder engagement skills to help shape and influence solutions. You will also be responsible for leading complex commercial activities, ensuring policy compliance, and have a strong understanding of Foreign Military Sales (FMS) and Direct Commercial Sales to support the delivery of business objectives for the C-17A platform and HALSPO. The position is the Australian focal point for the delivery of services via FMS arrangements, and is also delegated as the contract management authority for the Australian Sustainment Services Contract.
The position leads a team of military and civilian staff who directly engage with suppliers to ensure the availability of C-17 aircraft and training systems. Due to the diverse and complex C-17 enterprise, the incumbent needs to be able to exercise leadership across the C-17 enterprise and within the Defence organisation, ensuring coordination of services across providers and the identification of capability or financial risks.
The additional payment is a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP) which enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the rate of salary otherwise payable under the Enterprise Agreement (EA) to some or all of the jobs within a critical occupation(s) or discipline within a workplace. Applicants engaged into a BDCP position must consider the following. BDCPs provide remuneration in addition to the Defence Enterprise Agreement (EA). This arrangement is subject to meeting eligibility criteria and is subject to annual review. Should your performance fall beyond requirements or the eligibility criteria not be met, your eligibility for the BDCP may be reviewed and ceased. It may also be ceased should you change positions or the requirement for the BDCP is no longer necessary, as determined by Defence. Should the BDCP be ceased you will be advised and your BDCP additional payment will cease.
About our Team
The Heavy Air Lift Systems Program Office (HALSPO) provides sustainment support for four products including the C-17A Globemaster III Heavy Lift Transport, KC-30A Multi Role Tanker Transport, Boeing Business Jet and Falcon 7X Special Purpose Aircraft. These fleets form the backbone of the Strategic Air Mobility capability within Defence and are utilised for roles ranging from humanitarian support to high end operations.
This position is located in the C-17A Logistics Management Unit (LMU) of HALSPO at RAAF Base Amberley. The C-17A LMU's key function is to manage Foreign Military Sales and Direct Commercial Support contracts in a governance assurance capacity of the through life support industry partners. The LMU team is comprised of both Australian Public Service and Australian Defence Force members positioned at RAAF Base Amberley and Robins Air Force Base, USA providing support across the domains of Engineering and Technical Support, Supply Support, Procurement, Contract Management, Training Systems Management, Logistics Management & Governance and Reporting.

  • A proven track record of success in the leadership and management of sustainment management activities within a multidiscipline and multilateral working environment.
  • Highly developed communication skills and customer service ethos; with the capacity to foster strong partnerships with Industry and Air Force stakeholders in the delivery of Capability for Air Force.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing complex commercial contracts and foreign military sales arrangements, knowledge of Commonwealth procurement rules and knowledge of Australian and Foreign Export Controls compliance requirements to enable you to facilitate organisational plans, proposals and ideas at the tactical, operational and strategic levels.
  • Highly developed organisation skills; with the ability to manage competing priorities and where required negotiate priorities to support capability outcomes.
  • Proven experience in leading a diverse team; with the ability to provide advice and guidance over multiple facets of the Defence organisation in relation to legislative, policy, commercial and financial in order to meet the platform program and product delivery.
