ABOUT THE JOB
Join our progressive Development Assessment and Certification team and gain practical hands-on experience in supporting the planning and assessment of new developments, and the delivery of related infrastructure for the community of Lake Macquarie. You will be supported by a dedicated team of Engineers and professionals to gain broad practical experience in Civil Engineering that will complement the knowledge gained through your University studies.
A typical day as a Cadet Development Engineer could include:
- assisting in the assessment and determination of a broad range of development applications and works certificates for subdivisions
- conducting site inspections, preparing inspection reports and engaging in negotiations with developers
- provision of technical advice about subdivision and engineering related matters to applicants
- assessment of the suitability of technical studies associated with urban development. In particular hydrology, hydraulic, stormwater quality, geometric design, traffic and geotechnical studies and ensure compliance with the conditions of consent.
You will play a role in assisting to create vibrant, self-sustaining communities that are accessible, functional, safe and well-connected to ensure residents of Lake Macquarie can enjoy access to local services, facilities and infrastructure.
The Cadetship is a full-time position consisting of a 35-hour work week, inclusive of paid time to attend compulsory University classes. As you will be working full time, you would be required to convert to part-time studies. Continued enrollment in the relevant degree is a mandatory requirement for the duration of the Cadetship. Graduate applicants are ineligible for this Cadetship position.
ABOUT YOU
We are looking for undergraduate students who:
- Have completed or substantially completed the second year of a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) or equivalent within a combined degree that incorporates the Bachelor of Engineering (Civil).
- Are computer savvy and have a basic level of experience or understanding of analysing data and technical report writing
- Enjoy working in a team and across a variety of office and site locations
- Hold a minimum of Provisional Drivers Licence
The position is located at Council’s Administration Office in Speers Point NSW and involves frequent travel to multiple areas within Lake Macquarie.

WHAT WE OFFER
- Receive a wage whilst studying towards a qualification starting from $1040.80 per week plus 12 per cent superannuation (23/24 FY)
- Payment of university fees (including course and amenities fees) for the remainder of your related undergraduate studies
- Paid time to study and attend compulsory classes
- Yearly pay reviews and increases based on performance
- 35 hour working week with nine-day fortnight
- Four weeks paid annual leave
