Position Overview:
As a Canteen Assistant/Kitchen Hand, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our kitchen. From assisting with food preparation to maintaining cleanliness and organization, you'll be an integral part of our team. Your attention to detail and positive attitude will help us deliver outstanding service to our customers every day.
Hours: Term Only times - Monday-Friday -7am - 2.30pm
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain Cleanliness: Keep our kitchen, dishwashing equipment, and storage areas clean and organized at all times. This includes washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, and disposing of waste properly.
- Food Preparation: Assist with food preparation tasks such as chopping vegetables, assembling sandwiches, and baking goods. Follow recipes and portion sizes accurately to ensure consistency in our offerings.
- Service Support: Serve customers during breakfast and lunch hours, ensuring prompt and friendly service at all times. Handle cash transactions and maintain cleanliness at serving stations.
- Stock Management: Monitor stock levels and assist with inventory management. Rotate stock to ensure freshness and check use-by dates regularly.
- Collaboration: Work closely with volunteers and casual staff, providing guidance and support as needed. Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment where everyone feels valued and respected.
- Compliance: Adhere to food safety and hygiene standards at all times. Report any equipment issues or safety hazards to management promptly.
- End-of-Day Duties: Assist with end-of-day tasks such as cleaning equipment, washing aprons, and handling financial responsibilities. Ensure all areas are tidy and ready for the next day's operation.
- Previous experience in a kitchen or food service environment preferred but not required.
- Must have/will complete a Food Safety course.
- Must have Current Blue Card
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to work.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to changing priorities.
