About CatholicCare NT and the Program

CatholicCare NT is a Catholic social service agency established in the Diocese of Darwin. We provide services throughout the NT, including service centres in Darwin, Palmerston, Malak, Tiwi Islands, Daly River, Wadeye, Jabiru, Maningrida, Katherine, Tennant Creek, Alice Springs, Santa Teresa, Titjikala, Finke and APY lands.

CCNT provides an integrated Financial Counselling, Capability and Resilience hubs throughout the NT. Our model is led by a team of FWC workers that comprise of Financial Counsellors, and FWC Case Managers, who contribute to improved outcomes for vulnerable people, families, and communities by:

  • Helping people address immediate needs in times of financial crisis
  • Improving financial capability by helping people in personal financial difficulty to make informed choices to address their financial problems and by fostering the improved use and management of money
  • Assisting individuals, families and communities to navigate life transitions and/or financial stress or crisis which may negatively impact on their wellbeing
  • Improving financial resilience and pathways to mainstream financial services by providing access to savings and safe affordable credit products
  • Identifying effective methods of recognising families at risk of homelessness and providing early assistance to prevent family homelessness occurring, and
  • Implementing research and evaluation activities to contribute to programme and service improvement.

About the role

The Case Worker is responsible for assisting individuals, families and communities who are struggling with financial literacy issues and concerns for the program to meet its objectives. This position has a particular focus on working alongside clients to address the issues creating financial hardship and work collaboratively with other key stakeholders to remove obstacles to financial wellbeing and capability. This includes financial literacy education, information, coaching, and maintaining a strong focus on supporting people to change their behaviour and “learn by doing”.

What we are looking for

  • Relevant qualifications in Psychology, Social Work, Welfare Studies, or Men’s Family Violence with substantial experience in a similar role.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of domestic and family violence, its impact on women and children and the diverse drivers and contributing factors.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with men who have used violence in their relationships including communicating in a non-judgemental and non-confrontational manner.
  • A trauma-informed approach to be able to navigate complex dynamics sensitively, establish clear boundaries, and avoid inadvertently enabling harmful behaviour.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting comprehensive assessments and documenting observations accurately and objectively in case notes.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency, particularly in working with Indigenous men.

TIWI ISLAND

Comprising Bathurst and Melville Islands, with a population of around 2500, the Tiwi Islands are only 80km north of Darwin.
