Casual Hourly Rate: HEW 3 Casual - $39.15 per hour
Employment Type: Casual
Location: Waurn ponds
About the Role:
Assist in running the Carbon Nexus carbon fibre pilot line- 24hrs x 5 days for 4 weeks in November 2022, for an international company. The role requires attendance over 12-hour shifts, alternating between day and night on alternate weeks.
Each person would do 2 consecutive night shifts one week, then 3 consecutive day shifts the following week (and repeat for the following two weeks). This is a shift pattern that could suit Deakin students as it still leaves time in the week for study, as has been the case for the IFM Composite HDRs already employed in this manner.
It is not physical work, but being on your feet and performing 12 hours of shift work is a challenge.
PLEASE DO NOT APPLY IF YOU CANNOT DO THE NIGHT SHIFT COMPONENT.
Applicants that can do 4 consecutive night shifts will be considered favourably. Note that there is no night shift penalty rate. Night shift gets paid the same as day shift.
To be successful, you’ll have:
- Demonstrate a reasonable degree of attention to detail.
- A moderate level of stamina and fitness. There is a lot of walking required. Expect to do around 15000 steps each shift. Frequent walking up and down stairs is also required.
- This role requires the incumbent to apply for and maintain a Working With Children Check.
Your key responsibilities will be:
- Monitor the carbon fibre processing facility for tracking and wraps. Intervene when necessary to restore proper operation.
- Make diligent observations during the process of fibre performance and report concerns to the Team Leader.
- Engage with OHS requirements and follow the safe operating procedures.
- Assist with setting up, steady state running, collection, packaging, shut down and clean up.
- Any other duties as directed, commensurate with the scope and classification of the position.
- Sign up to and maintain non-disclosure confidentiality with respect to the client.
