You will gain experience providing high quality services to the Department and the community, making a positive difference to the lives of others.As a Graduate Officer, you will take on varied placements assisting in research, information sourcing and gathering, data analysis, project management, coordination, and implementation. You will build your technical skills and enhance your stakeholder engagement abilities. Graduate Officers rotate through multiple workplace environments, demonstrating adaptability, self-awareness and relationship building skills. You will have the opportunity to apply the knowledge you have gained throughout your studies to the workplace and develop practical skills to kickstart a rewarding career with the Department of Justice.The 12-month Graduate Program commences in February 2025, and includes:

  • Three rotations throughout various business areas relevant to your discipline.
  • Interdepartmental learning and networking.
  • Leadership forums with the Department’s Senior Executives and subject matter experts.
  • Participation in the Public Sector Commission’s Launch Program.
  • Career counselling and support from a formal mentor, the Graduate Coordinators and your line managers.
We are looking for Graduate Officers from various education disciplines. As a part of the application process, you will be asked to nominate your preferred business stream/s based on your study background, experiences and/or interests. The four streams are:
  • Business and Commerce – including Business Administration, Human Resources, Accounting and Finance, Management, Business Law, Employment Relations, Economics, Procurement and Contract Management, Marketing and Communications.
  • Humanities – including Criminology, Politics, Public Policy, Public Relations, Social Sciences, Psychology, Social Work and Sociology.
  • Justice – including Legal Studies, Law and Social Justice.
  • Information Technology and Data – including Business Analytics.
Preferences will be requested at application. Preferences are not guaranteed, and the panel may shortlist into alternate positions based on suitability.PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY
  • Australian Citizenship or Permanent Resident
  • To be considered for this role, applicants must be in possession of a relevant tertiary degree qualification. Qualification must have been completed within 3 years of this program commencing. Degree requirements must be complete in entirety before commencing the program.

Review and Psychometric TestingPsychometric testing is designed to assess your cognitive and psychological suitability for the role, as well as your work style preferences. You may be invited to complete a series of online assessments which includes a cognitive ability test, a personality questionnaire and a motivations questionnaire.Pool RecruitmentThis pool will be open for a period of 12 months from the day after the breach of standard claim period closes. Permanent, fixed term, full time and part time appointments may be offered as vacancies arise; however, an appointment is not guaranteed.The Department of Justice uses recruitment pools to build a bank of talent for future opportunities.
