The Role
Reporting to the Features, Investigations and Data Editor within the SBS News digital team, this role will see you:
Pitching, researching, writing and producing original stories that reflect the SBS Charter, including short-term data-led news stories and longer-term data interactives & investigations.
Handling, cleaning, analysing and visualising data using in-house and third-party platforms to tell compelling stories.
Working autonomously to increase data-led storytelling at SBS News, as well as collaboratively with the Creative Developer, Graphic Designers and Features, Investigations & Data Editor, as well as Journalists and Social Producers from across SBS who need support applying data journalism to their reporting.
The role may also include some data handling and projects for internal purposes.
It is a requirement of this role that incumbents are fully vaccinated with an approved Covid-19 vaccination in line with the ATAGI guidelines which include booster shots. We do however have a medical exemption process and we would be happy to discuss your application should this be applicable to you.

Analytical: Ability to assess and interpret data and analytics with a high degree of accuracy.
Creative: Passion to transform numerical information into content ideas and to inform strategic decision-making.
Collaborative: Willingness to be a team player, supporting the work of other team members and work on a casual basis to meet the needs of the business.

An innovative data-led interactive.
A longer-term data-led feature or investigation.
Where possible, ideas should:
Be hooked to something current or upcoming in the news cycle and/or be a key/future talking point among people in Australia
Reflect the SBS Charter.
Each pitch should contain a suggested headline and a short proposal of the story no longer than 200 words.
Casual role
Please note this is a casual role. The specific days/hours will depend on the business needs and can be discussed. The role can be based at SBS in Sydney or Melbourne and can be a mix of in-office and work-from-home.
